Starting at 1st level, this ability has the following effect:
The dauntless defender can spend a move action (instead of a standard action) when positioning his tower shield in order to obtain total cover (as explained in the tower shield's description). Additionally, while the dauntless defender's tower shield is positioned such that it grants him total cover, he can spend an immediate action in order to reposition it from the edge that it currently occupies to a different edge of his square.
When the dauntless defender reaches 3rd level, this ability gains an additional effect:
While they remain linked, both the dauntless defender and his partner gain a +2 morale bonus to AC.
When the dauntless defender reaches 7th level, this ability gains an additional effect:
Whenever the dauntless defender positions his tower shield in order to obtain total cover (as explained in the tower shield's description) while he is adjacent to his partner, he can spend a free action in order to move into his partner's square and position his shield along one of the edges of their square, in which case both the dauntless defender and his partner gain the benefits of the total cover that is granted by the dauntless defender's tower shield.
FAQ
Q: "You can’t end your movement in the same square as another creature." Does this statement apply to the additional effect of Shared Cover?
A: No. If a dauntless defender uses the additional effect of Shared Cover in order to enter his partner's square when positioning his tower shield in order to obtain total cover (as explained in the tower shield's description), he can ignore that restriction.
