Description
Half-Oni's do not come about from a loving relationship, often times the Oni parent will use magic to disguise their true from and have their partner fall in love with them and then disappear afterwards, other Oni take on the form of someone their partner knows and uses that to form the relationship and sow discord when it is revealed even if it is not believed, finally some Oni do not use subtlety and merely preform their act with their true form.
Baring the child of an Oni is an arduous task and often times leads to the mothers death in child birth, those that do survive have their life force greatly weakened and die before a decade has concluded leaving the child an orphan at a young age. A Greater Restoration spell or similar magic can restore the mother's lost life force.
Half-Oni do not have good childhoods, by being larger than other kids and do to the nature of their households they often go from being bullied to becoming bullies and eventually criminals. Common carries for adult Half-Oni is to become criminals or mercenaries, using their natural strength to push and force what they want but also their cunning to become shadows in history controlling events from behind the scenes. Rarely circumstances line up where the Half-Oni lives a good life or becomes a good person, more often they give in to the dark nature of their parentage or even meet and are raised their Oni parent. These Half-Oni are said to become full Oni in time.
Apearance
Young Half-Oni appear as humans though typically tall for their age they do not show their Oni characteristics until they enter puberty. Once fully mature a Half-Oni will be very tall for a humanoid and have slightly pointed ears as well as any number of horns protruding from their head as well as unusual hair and skin colors with thick often sharp nails.
Half-Oni Traits
Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2.
Age. Half-Oni mature at the same rate as humans up until they hit puberty where they will generally mature faster until they reach adulthood where their aging will slow allowing them to live over 300 years.
Alignment. Due to their normally unfortunate upbringing, Half-Oni are often evil or neutral. They can be good as well.
Size. Half-Oni are built like a human but are much taller. Your height ranges from 7 to over 9 feet in height; your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Powerful Build. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Giant.
Legacy Traits
Choose two of the following options when creating your character:
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Eye for Deception. You have profficiency with Insight and Perception. If you gain profficiency with either of thise skills then you gain Expertise in that skill instead.
Claws. Your hands twist into dangerous pointed claws or your nails are sharpened like blades. Your unarmed strikes now deal damage equal to 1d6 plus your Strength modifier or, if you have one, your spellcasting ability modifier. You can use either your Strength or spellcasting ability modifier for the attack roll. Your unarmed strikes count as light weapons.
When you reach 8th-level, your unarmed strike damage increases from a d6 to a d8, then again at 13th-level to a d10.
Size Options. Your size is Medium or Large (you choose during character creation).
Supernatural Strength. You can wield a weapon with the versatile property in one hand, but use the damage dice as if you were wielding it with two hands; or use a two handed weapon with one (you cannot dual weald these weapons).
Thicker Blood You gain the mix blood trait of a Half-Oni subrace other then one you already have (this legacy trait can be taken multiple times.
Mixed Blood Traits
If your character is of mixed blood and their dominant race is not goliath, then you may consider the following options when creating your character:
Bloodline. Choose one of the following traits, which you gain from its corresponding subrace:
- Change Shape (Gray Oni)
- Feral Combatant (Red Oni)
- Oni Magic (Blue Oni)
- Regeneration (Green Oni)
- Superior Darkvision (Black Oni)
Powerful Build You have the Powerful Build trait.
Subraces
Half-Oni do not possess the full capabilities of their oni parent and instead show one portion of their power. Half-Oni typically will be colored similarly based on what traits they inherited but this is not absolute.
BLACK ONI
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 1.
Superior Darkvision. You have darkvision out to 60 feet, allowing you to see in dim light as if it were bright light, and darkness as if it was dim light. If you already have darkvision from another trait or feature, then you either gain 30 feet of darkvision beyond it or your darkvision extends to 120 feet (whichever result is higher).
Using this vision you can see colors in shades of gray, and your regular vision is particularly good at picking up details hidden by shadow.
Hidden One. You gain proficiency in the Stealth skill.
Shadow Walker. You can attempt to hide when you are in an area of dim light or darkness.
BLUE ONI
Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 1.
Spellsavy. You gain proficiency in the Arcana skill.
Oni Magic. You know the Minor Illusion cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Charm Person spell once per day as a 1st-level spell. When you reach 5th level, you can also cast the Darkness spell once per day. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for these spells. You can also cast either of those spells using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level.
GRAY ONI
Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 1.
Silver Tongue. You gain proficiency in the Deception skill.
Change Shape. As an action, you can polymorph into any humanoid of your size that you have seen, or back into your true form. However, your equipment does not change with you. If your hit points are reduced to 0, you revert to your natural appearance. You retain all of your normal statistics while in this form. You may use this feature once per Rest.
GREEN ONI
Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 1.
Healer. You gain proficiency in the Medicine skill.
Regeneration. As a bonus action you can expend a number of your hit dice up to your Proficiency Bonus, regain hit points using those hit diece as if you had taken a short rest. Once you've used this feature you must complete a Rest before you can use it again.
RED ONI
Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1.
Menacing. You gain proficiency in the Intimidation skill.
Feral Combatant. As a bonus action you can choose to add a d4 to your next actions attack and damage rolls, the d4 is rolled with each d20 roll. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus and regain expended uses when you finish a Rest.
