Eternal Edge

Weapon (Greatsword), legendary (requires attunement)

A greatsword seemingly carved from a dark stone, with countless scratches along the hilt and pommel. The blade is perfectly polished, however.

You gain a +1 to attack and damage rolls with this weapon.

Attunement. In order to attune to this weapon, a 1 hour long ritual must be conducted at night, which can be done during a short rest, at the conclusion of which you use the weapon to sever one of your arms. If you are interrupted during the ritual, you must start again.

During this ritual and while you are attuned to this weapon, it ceases to have the two-handed and heavy properties, gains a +3 to attack and damage rolls instead of a +1, as well as the following effects:

Constant Attrition. You become immune to necrotic damage and cannot be disarmed while holding this weapon. In addition, whenever you hit a creature with an attack using this weapon, it and all creatures within 5 feet of it takes 1d8 necrotic damage.

Endless Whisperings. The souls and voices of this weapon's previous owners whisper in your mind. You can cast speak with dead, targeting one of the previous owners. Once you do this, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Isolated Interrogation. If you reduce a creature to 0 hit points using this weapon, you can choose to temporarily store its soul inside the weapon. For 10 days, the creature cannot be resurrected from the dead. At the conclusion of this time, the creature's soul goes to the afterlife. While stored in this way, you can use the Endless Whisperings trait on the contained soul. You can only have one soul trapped in this way at a time.

Desperation's Judgement. If you are below half your maximum hit points, you have advantage on attack rolls with this weapon and can roll 1 additional damage dice when you land an attack.

Imprisioned Judgement. If you die while attuned to the weapon, you don't go to the afterlife. Instead, you are sucked into the weapon and become one of the voices trapped within the sword. You count as unwilling for the purposes of resurrection spells, and you cannot be freed from the blade short of a wish spell.

If the severed limb is ever restored or replaced, you immediately cease to be attuned to the weapon.
