Way of the Third Eye

The Art of Precognition

Practitioners of the Way of the Third Eye spend years of their lives in dedicated meditation in order to awaken their third eyes allowing them to catch fleeting glimpses into the future and granting them unparalleled situational awareness. As a result these monks are often seen as great and wise mystical beings with supernatural insight or great sages, housing ancient in their minds. These practitioners are often sought out by political leaders and generals to be used as invaluable advisors and tacticians.

Know Your Power

Although the concept of a third eye appears in popular culture and real world belief systems the exact nature and presentation of a third eye is inconsistent. In the real world the third eye is a metaphorical concept but in art and media characters will occasionally manifest their third eye physically on their forehead. Your character's third eye may manifest as an additional eye, an illusion an eye at appears over your forehead when you use your psionic powers, a marking on your face, or something else of your own invention.

Class Features

Bonus Proficiencies

Upon reaching the third level and awakening your third eye you gain proficiency in two of the fallowing skills: History, Insight, Perception, or Religion.

Psionic Talent

You harbor a wellspring of psionic power, an energy that ebbs and flows as you channel it in various ways. This power is represented by your Psionic Talent Die, the starting size of which is a d6.

Psionic Talent Options. You can use your Psionic Talent Die in the fallowing ways:

  • Limited Precognition. You have learned to glimpse into the near future which you can use to enhance your martial arts by predicting how your opponents will attempt to dodge your attacks. Once per turn when you make an attack with an unarmed strike you can add a roll of your Psionic Talent Die to the attack roll. You can do this before or after the attack roll but before the result of the roll is announced.
  • Psionic Epiphany. Your third eye grants you supernatural revelations and and allows you to gaze into the hearts of others. When you make a History, Insight, Perception, or Religion check you can add a roll of your Psionic Talent Die plus your Wisdom modifier to the roll. You can do this before or after the roll is made but before the result of the check is announced.
  • Sight of the Third Eye. You can focus your vision through your third eye in order to grant yourself heightened perception. As an action you can grant yourself darkvision out to a number of feet equal to a roll of your Psionic Talent Die times five feet or if you already have darkvision you can instead increase your darkvision by the same ammount. This darkvision lasts for 1 hour or until you fall unconscious. While you have this darkvision you gain a +2 bonus to your passive perception as your third eye helps you scan your surroundings more diligently.

Changing the Die’s Size. If you roll the highest number on your Psionic Talent die, it decreases by one die size after the roll. This represents you burning through your psionic energy. For example, if the die is a d6 and you roll a 6, it becomes a d4. If it’s a d4 and you roll a 4, it becomes unusable until you finish a long rest. Conversely, if you roll a 1 on your Psionic Talent die, it increases by one die size after the roll, up to its starting size. This represents you conserving psionic energy for later use. For example, if you roll a 1 on a d4, the die then becomes a d6. Whenever you finish a long rest, your Psionic Talent die resets to its starting size. When you reach certain levels in this class, the starting size of your Psionic Talent die increases: at 5th level (d8), 11th level (d10), and 17th level (d12).

Psi Replenishment. As a bonus action, you can calm your mind for a moment and restore your Psionic Talent die to its starting size. You then can’t use Psi Replenishment again until you finish a long rest.

Otherworldly Gaze

By sixth level you have become so attuned with your third eye that your perception reaches far beyond any mortal limits.

Greater Precognition. You have learned to perceive time in both the present and the near future allowing you to land clean strikes on your enemies. When you use your Limited Precognition ability and your attack hits you can deal additional damage to the target equal to a roll of your Psionic Talent Die.

Out of Body Experience. You have carefully honed your third eye's perceptive powers allowing you to see places far beyond your physical body. When your Psionic Talent Die is available you can cast the clairvoyance spell, requiring no components. Your spellcasting ability for this spell is wisdom. When you cast this spell, your Psionic Talent Die decreases by one size.

Perfect Vision

By eleventh level your third eye has become so powerful it can allow you to look beyond the physical plane and spy on creature from great distances. You learn the scrying and true seeing spells, you can cast these spells requiring no components. Your spellcasting ability for these spells is wisdom. Once you cast a spell using this feature you can't do so again until you finish a long rest, unless you decrease your Psionic Talent Die by one size or expend 5 ki points to cast one of these spells again.

Psionic Breakthrough

As you reach seventeenth level your understanding of the world around you increases exponentially. Your proficiency in the History, Insight, Perception, and Religion skills is doubled.

True Precognition

By seventeenth level your vision of the future has become so precise you can single out a creature to perceive their actions before they even take them. When you use your Limited Precognition ability and your attack hits you can mark that target for 1 minute or until you mark another creature in this way. A marked creature has disadvantage on attack rolls against you and you have advantage on any saving throws it forces you to make. When you use this ability your Psionic Talent Die decreases by one size.
