Rogue: Martyr
Roguish Archetype
At 3rd level, a rogue gains the Roguish Archetype feature. The following option is available to a rogue, in addition to those offered in the Player's Handbook.
Martyr
You work in the shadows to carry out the will of a deity. Many who follow this archetype work for a church or other organization, eliminating heresy, recovering relics, or completing other jobs that need a more subtle hand than that of a cleric or paladin. In return for your service, your deity grants you divine favor.
Martyr Features
| Rogue Level | Feature |
|---|---|
| 3rd | Divine Agent, Spellcasting |
| 9th | Inquisitor |
| 13th | Channel Divinity: Preordain |
| 17th | Holy Vengeance |
Divine Agent
When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you are granted a sliver of divine power by the deity whom you serve. You gain the following benefits:
Divine Domain. Choose a cleric domain from your chosen deity's list of eligible domains. The Trickery and Knowledge domains are especially appropriate choices for a martyr.
Channel Divinity. You gain the ability to use the Channel Divinity option granted at 2nd level by your chosen domain. If that option refers to your cleric level, use half of your rogue level instead. Once you use your Channel Divinity, you cannot do so again until you finish a short or long rest. Beginning at 10th level, you can use your Channel Divinity twice between rests.
Blade of the Martyr. When you use your Sneak Attack, you can choose to have the extra damage be radiant or necrotic damage (your choice when you gain this feature) instead of its normal type.
Spellcasting
At 3rd level, you gain the ability to cast spells.
Cantrips. You learn two cantrips of your choice from the cleric spell list. You learn another cleric cantrip of your choice at 10th level.
Domain Spells. You learn the 1st level domain spells from your chosen domain and can cast each of them once without expending a spell slot. Once you cast a spell in this manner, you can't cast it again using this feature until you complete a long rest.
You learn additional spells from your chosen domain's spell list when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the domain spell levels table below.
Domain Spell Levels
| Rogue Level | Domain Spell Level |
|---|---|
| 3rd | 1st |
| 5th | 2nd |
| 9th | 3rd |
| 13th | 4th |
| 17th | 5th |
Spellcasting Ability. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your cleric spells. The power to cast spells is granted by your deity. You use your Wisdom whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Wisdom modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a cleric spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.
Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus +
your Wisdom modifier
Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus +
your Wisdom modifier
Inquisitor
Starting at 9th level, your deity grants you glimpses of divine insight. If you spend at least one minute interacting with another creature outside of combat, you learn if that creature is a celestial, fiend, or undead. Additionally, you learn the identity of any celestial, fiend, undead, or deity that the creature serves or is in knowing contact with. At the DM's option, you might also discover a piece of the creature's history or one of its personality traits, if it has any.
Channel Divinity: Preordain
Starting at 13th level, you can use your Channel Divinity to call on divine favor. When you make an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can use your Channel Divinity to reroll the d20. You can do so after seeing the initial roll but before any of the effects of the roll occur.
Holy Vengeance
At 17th level, you become a conduit of divine fury. When you use your action to cast a spell, you can use your bonus action to make a weapon attack. If the spell was one of your domain spells, you have advantage on the attack.
