\columnbreak ## History Za'ira was hatched late one night in a storeroom of The Strigiformes Archives of Veregader, home to the Istarian Assembly. Her egg had come to them as a gift from an adventuring party that had unknowingly traded her for knowledge. The only witness to the hatching was a half-elven librarian-priestess by the name of Aerila Nailo. Recognizing the child's heritage she feared for the girls life would be in danger if discovered. Instead she chose to raise the girl in secret herself using the massive size of the library to secret her away in dark corners to raise as her own. And raise Za'ira she did. Naming her 'Rose' in a long forgotten language she kept Za'ira hidden for nearly two decades. Za'ira knew only the Archives and its endless fields of scrolls and tomes for most of her life. At night, long after Istarians had retired to bed she would sneak out, her golden eyes giviner her unparalleled ability to read in the dark. During these hours she learned everything she could. History, magic, religion, and the natural world. Of alchemy and artificer, or magic and deities. She soaked it in, and her lust for knowledge only grew with her age. At sixteen she had started to grow in her desire and recklessly she broke into a forbidden section of the library. She was successful in her attempt but not unnoticed. Librarian-Priests realized that there had been a break in, at first it was considered a one-time heist. But after after some time they realized it had to be a repeat offender. A passing adventuring party was called in to investigate, The Red Crows. The group took its time tracking down Za'ira. Believing her to be a yuan-ti infiltrator and spy, stealing great knowledge of the library they enacted a plan to remove her. Not wanting to let her get a spell off they sprung an ambush, firing arrows at her while she read. The girl was only saved by the timely intervention of her adoptivem other. Aerila throwing herself in front of the arrows meant for her daughter and being struck down by the attack. Horror and fear stricken on the young girls face she immediately fled from her the scene with her dying mother tears streaming down her face. She fled deep into the great library. Skilled as her enemies were they did not have the encyclopedic knowledge of her home and she lost them amongst the maze-like structure... But she could not stay here. Her location was revealed, she knew of her own people from the tomes and books, she knew what the librarians and adventurers would consider her, and with a heavy heart. Za'ira grabbed some supplies and a distinctive owl mask to cover her face and she left the Archives to began her travels. \pagebreakNum ## Personality Za'ira is reserved at first. Hard to make friends with and cautious to trust anyone. The quickest way to get her to open up is the discussion and sharing of knowledge. She becomes excited when learning anything new or when she gets a chance to inform someone of something they did not know. Her encyclopedic knowledge is a boon to an adventuring party but sometimes she can babble on too long about unnecessary factoids. ## Appearance ### Physical Za'ira appears as a slightly short humanoid girl. Her skin is a lighter brown and she has short messily cut black hair as she does not trust others to cut it for her. This hair ends in red tips as it naturally fades to that color. Along the side of her cheeks and down her neck is a series of bright teal scales that clearly distinguish her as a yuan-ti rather than a human. If that didn't give her away then her yellow-golden slitted eyes would. She *might* be able to convince someone who had never heard of yuan-ti that she's a dragonkin of some form but most who know those races may be skeptical. \columnbreak ### Clothing Due to her nature Za'ira dresses conservatively in yellows and browns, colors that will hopefully not attract any attention. In addition she makes sure to cover her skin and particularly her scales on all parts of her body, and fingerless leather gloves that give her more freedom of movement to work. To cover her head and face she wears a yellowish hood and a full owl-mask concealing her identity and addint some misdirection to her identity. She claims the mask is a function of her religion, an act of personal sacrifice to promote knowledge above self. ## Allies & Enemies ### Family **Aerila Nailo**: Za'iras adoptive mother and a Librarian-Priestess of the Great Library. She raised Za'ira in secret since her hatching within the Great Library and threw herself in front of an arrow meant for Za'ira saving the girl. Za'ira fled shortly after and does not know if her adoptive mother survived the attack or not. ### Friends Za'ira has no friends =C ### Enemies **The Red Crows**: An adventuring party that originally found and drove Za'ira out of her home. They have experience dealing with Yuan-ti infiltrators and cults.
## Plothooks The following is a handful of plothooks you can use to get Za'ira invested in an adventure. ### Loreseeker Give her a hint as unknown knowledge or a lost tome. If an adventure leads to her learning something shes much more likely to follow it and be involved. ### Late Fees When Za'ira fled she grabbed a handful of books to bring with her, one or more of these are from the forbidden section and considered dangerous enough for adventurers to be sent out after Za'ira. Adventurers which may not give her time to explain herself. But why would this tome be dangerous? ### Good Deeds Simply put Za'ira is likely to use her knowledge to help people. If she thinks she can use her knowledge to aide another she will do so.
