Circle of Roots

Druids of the Circle of Roots understand that a tree's beauty lies in its branches, but its strength lies in its roots.Typically known as Rootweavers, Circle of Roots druids use their powers of connection and growth to transform themselves into unmovable bastions of strength and protection.

Mycorrhizal Network

At 2nd level, you learn to tap into the surrounding plantlife to share senses. By joining with the mycorrhizal network that connects the surrounding plants for at least 7 hours you can expand your consciousness with the help of the environment around you. During this time you can share your sense a sight of 30 feet with any tree within a 1 mile radius in the form of blindsight.

Additionally, your ability to understand and decode information related to the root network improves as you level up, as a result your time needed spent connecting is reduced by 2 hours each at levels: 6th, 10th, 14th.

Rooted Form

You've recognized that roots can be a source of power. At 2nd level, you can expend a use of your Wild Shape feature to become more like that of a tree. Your arms meld into your chest while your legs sprout roots that bury into the ground. Your skin becomes bark-like in texture and color and your hair becomes the color and shape of leaves.

While in Rooted Form, you gain the following benefits:

  • Your movement is set to 0 and you automatically fail Dexterity saving throws.
  • You are immune to the grappled and prone condition.
  • You gain blindsight of 30 feet.
  • You cannot cast spells.
  • Your AC is equal to 10 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom Modifier.

Additionally, while in Rooted Form you gain access to the 'Root Strike' attack, allowing you to jet a sharpened root from the ground. Root strike deals 1d6 piercing damage + your Wisdom Modifier while having a range of 10 feet.

Enhanced Growth

At 6th level you have learn how to produce rapid growth within yourself. Choose one of the following to occur whenever you enter your 'Rooted Form'.

Dense Vegetation. You influence the soil your roots connect to, cause them to burst with various flora that you can partially control. For creatures of your choice all terrain within 30 feet of you is now difficult terrain. Those affected are met with stiff plants while those unaffected feel only normal vegetation.

Shrouded Crown. You grow an expansive canopy of branches and leaves out of your head, darkening the immediate area. All space in a 10 foot radius is treated as heavily obscured, and lightly obscured for a 30 foot radius.

Raised Root. You are able to manipulate your roots above ground to a small degree. Half-walls made of root can be lifted up out of the ground providing half cover to anyone who hides behind them.

Your rapid growth is only temporary however, as when you exit 'Rooted Form' any effect to the surrounding environment reverts as well.

Shared Nutrients

At 10th level, you learn to access the root network . While in 'Rooted Form' you can ask and receive healing nutrients from the surrounding vegetation, regaining hitpoints equal to 6d6 + your druid level.

Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again.

Arcane Tap Roots

At 14th level your roots gain the ability to siphon the ambient mana from the ground, allowing you to reap the following benefits while in your 'Rooted Form'.

  • You gain resistance to all damage except psychic damage.
  • Your 'Root Strike' attack is considered magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.
