Bladesmith
The blacksmith practices repetition, hammering the sword over and over until all impurities vanish. Artificers of the Bladesmith specialization are able to take this a step further imbuing such weapons with the echos of intelligence.
Expanded Spell List
Starting at 3rd level, you always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Bladesmith Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.
Bladesmith Spells
| Spell Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| 3rd | shield, wrathful smite |
| 5th | shadow blade, shatter |
| 9th | crusaders mantle, thunder step |
| 13th | fabricate, fire shield |
| 17th | animate objects, steel wind strike |
Forge Mastery
At 3rd level, your skill lies not only with the craftsmanship of blades but wielding them as well. You gain proficiency in Martial Weapons and Smiths Tools. If you already have this proficiency, you instead can gain proficiency in one artisan’s tools of your choice. Additionally, the cost of forging weapons is halved for you.
Swords Soul
Also at 3rd level, over the course of a long rest you can imbue a mundane weapon you have proficiency with sentience. The weapon shares your Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores and you can refer to the Sentient Magic Items section of the DMG for creating your sentient weapon. The sentient weapon has the following properties;
- As a bonus action, you can call your weapons name to awaken its hidden potential. For the next minute your first attack each turn deals an additional 1d6 acid, cold, fire, or lighting damage (your choice when you take this feature). You can use this feature once per short rest.
- You can use this weapon as a spellcasting focus for casting your Artificer spells.
- You can use your Intelligence modifier in place of your Strength or Dexterity modifier for attack and damage rolls with this weapon.
You can only have 1 sentient weapon at once, if you make another the intelligence fades from the original.
Extra Attack
At 5th level, you can attack twice instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. Additionally, your sentient weapon counts as magical for overcoming resistances.
Weapon Modifier
At 9th level, you learn how to use your artificer infusions to specially modify your sentient weapon.
That weapon now counts as 4 separate items for the purposes of your Infuse Items feature. Each of those items can bear one of your infusions. In addition, the maximum number of items you can infuse at once increases by 2, but those extra items must be part of your sentient weapon.
Bladeheart
At 15 level, your bond with your sentient weapon allows both your you to empower each other. While your sentient weapon is awakened from your Swords Soul feature you are considered to be under the effects of the haste spell.
