Way of Discord

Monks of all disciplines have at least a rudimentary knowledge of how ki flows through all creatures, and can even interact with it at a certain proficiency. Monks of this path take a more in depth study of how to interact with, disable, and even control the flow of ki within another creature's body.

Ki inhibition

At 3rd level, you can interfere with the natural flow of ki within your opponents in minor, debilitating ways. When you hit a creature with one of the attacks granted by your Flurry of Blows, you can impose one of the following effects on that target:

  • It has disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes.
  • It's speed is reduced by 10 feet.
  • It can't regain hitpoints.

These effects last until the end of your next turn.

Paralysis Strike

At 6th level, you begin to exercise your control in stronger, more powerful ways. When you hit an incapacitated creature with a melee weapon attack, you may spend two ki points to force the target to make a wisdom saving throw. On a failure, the target becomes paralyzed until the end of your next turn.

Chakra Blocking

At 11th level, your control becomes refined enough to interfere with an opponent's flow of ki in exact, precise ways. Once per turn when you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack, you may spend 1 ki point to attempt to disrupt the creature's natural abilities. Once within the next minute, you can use your reaction when that creature makes an ability check, attack roll, or saving throw, to subtract your martial arts die from that roll.

Ki Control

At 17th level, your manipulation of the ki within a creature is so refined that you can sometimes take direct control of a creature through manipulation of the Ki flow within it. When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you may spend 8 ki points to cast Dominate Monster on your target. Once you use use this feature, you may not use it again until the end of your next long rest.

Note

If you are using the Martial Artist monk rework, Martial Artists of this Combat Philosophy learn the Flurry of Blows Technique, from the Basic Techniques list, at 3rd level. If they already know Flurry of Blows, they can instead learn one other technique of your choice from the Basic Techniques feature list.
