Female Anophelii

The anophelii are mosquito-like humanoids that live in hot and humid climates. The males feed on rotting plant matter and use their prodigious intelligence to solve engineering and arcane challenges. The females feed on blood, and although when they are full, they are quite intelligent, and capable of creating grand empires, when they are hungry, they are almost mindless, looking only for their next meal.

The females are generally around 5 ft. tall with a 10 ft. wingspan of nacreous buzzing wings. When they are unfed, they weigh as little as 75 lbs., but when they are full, they may weigh as much as 200 lbs. or more. Their skin is white, and when they are unfed they look emaciated, with large folds of skin hanging off their thin bodies. They have huge eyes and no teeth in their gums. When they feed, they can shoot a foot-long proboscis from their mouths. When full, their body girth is doubled, their skin turns pink and lively, and they look overstuffed.

The females are perpetually hungry, and they will attack any blooded creature that enters their territory. They charge at any source of food and attempt to drain it dry as quickly as possible, leaving it discarded afterwards and leaving to digest. The remnants are dried and desiccated like mummies. They prefer to charge from ambush, using cover to approach. When they are full, they move slowly and retreat. It is only at this point that they are capable of reason and any conversation (if the creature speaks anophelii).

Berserk. Starved and bloodthirsty, when the anophelii has gained less than 40 hit points from Blood Drain, as a bonus action, she can enter a rage at the start of her turn. The rage lasts for 1 minute or until the anophelii is incapacitated. While raging, the anophelii gains the following benefits:

  • The anophelii has advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws

  • The anophelii can make two attacks: one Unarmed Strike and one Blood Drain.

  • The anophelii has resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.

  • The anophelii takes a -2 penalty to AC and Dexterity saving throws.

Actions

Unarmed Strike. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d6 + 5) bludgeoning damage. Instead of dealing damage, the anophelii can grapple the target (escape DC 18).

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d8 + 5) piercing damage.

Blood Drain. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one grappled, incapacitated, or restrained target. Hit: 9 (1d8 + 5) piercing damage plus 13 (3d8) necrotic damage. The target's hit point maximum is reduced by an amount equal to the necrotic damage taken, and the anophelii gains temporary hit points equal to the same amount. The reduction lasts until the target finishes a long rest. The target dies if this effect reduces its hit point maximum to 0. For every 24 temporary hit points the anophelii gains, her walking speed is reduced 5 feet, and her flying speed is reduced 10 feet. If the anophelii gains 96 temporary hit points, she is full and attempts to disengage from battle and retreat. The anophelii loses 6 temporary hit points per hour.
