# Deadlands: The Weird West ## Setting Guide
### Story ##### The ever-present atmosphere of fear has grown worse over the countryside in recent years. ##### Your character is making their way in The Weird West any way that they can, which currently means doing odd jobs for the only honest lawman in the territory, RANSE STODDARD. ##### Stoddard has hired you and your companions to investigate the strange rumors coming out of the dying mining town of COFFIN ROCK, under the pretense of delivering the bounty for the hanging of the notorious Valance gang. ##### Stoddard has warned you that the danger may escalate rapidly, so be prepared for anything. He sees you off from Denver the next day, after you've had time to buy supplies and gear. He warns you again to be careful and hands over the bag of gold constituting the bounty payment. ##### "Guard this with your lives. If things aren't what they seem in Coffin Rock, you may need to spread it around to get out with your skins." ##### After three days ride, the valley surrounding Coffin Rock appears on the horizon. As the wind reaches you from its direction, a chill runs down your spine... ##### Welcome to Coffin Rock.
