# Paladin: Progress
## Sacred Oath At 3rd level, a paladin gains the Sacred Oath feature. The following option is available to a paladin, in addition to those offered in the *Player's Handbook*. ### Oath of Progress The Oath of Progress exhorts paladins to pursue the betterment of civilization at a fundamental level. Paladins who swear this oath commit to raise up their communities through education and example, knowing that this is the path to lasting change. Many who swear an Oath of Progress are devoted to gods of knowledge and civilization, but others serve their ideals directly. They establish new communities and places of learning, support sages and artificers in their work, and cast down those who feed on ignorance. #### Tenets of Progress The tenets of the Oath of Progress are refined as frequently as anything else their adherents create. Still, there are some core beliefs which are shared by all paladins who swear by this oath. **Innovation.** A stagnant community cannot hope to overcome new challenges. **Education.** Knowledge hoarded by the few must be shared with all. **Creation.** The tools of progress must be put to use. **Community.** Experience must be passed on if it is not to be lost forever. ##### Oath of Progress Features | Paladin Level | Feature | |:---:|:-----------:| | 3rd | Oath Spells, Channel Divinity | | 7th | Aura of Erudition (10ft.)| | 15th | Mind's Aegis | | 18th | Aura of Erudition (30 ft.) | | 20th | Avatar of Enlightenment | #### Oath Spells You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed in the Oath of Balance Spells table. See the Sacred Oath class feature for how oath spells work. ##### Oath of Progress Spells | Paladin Level | Spells | |:---:|:-----------:| | 3rd | *comprehend languages*, *identify* | | 5th | *enhance ability*, *heat metal* | | 9th | *glyph of warding*, *hypnotic pattern* | | 13th | *fabricate*, *stone shape* | | 17th | *animate objects*, *awaken* | \columnbreak #### Channel Divinity When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options. See the Sacred Oath class feature for how Channel Divinity works. **Knowledge of the Ages.** You can use your Channel Divinity to borrow a sliver of divine knowledge. As an action, you choose one skill or tool. For 10 minutes, you have proficiency with the chosen skill or tool. **Turn the Ignorant.** You can use your Channel Divinity to awe others with your holy knowledge. As an action, you present your holy symbol, and each creature of your choice that can see or hear you within 30 feet must make an Intelligence saving throw. A creature automatically succeeds on its saving throw if it does not understand at least one language. If the creature fails its saving throw, it is turned for 1 minute or until it takes damage. A turned creature must spend its turns trying to move as far away from you as it can, and it can't willingly move to a space within 30 feet of you. It also can't take reactions. For its action, it can use only the Dash action or try to escape from an effect that prevents it from moving. If there's nowhere to move, the creature can use the Dodge action. #### Aura of Erudition Beginning at 7th level, your very presence is enough to enlighten those around you. When you complete a short or long rest, choose one skill or tool. Creatures of your choice within 10 feet of you are proficient in the chosen skill or tool while you aren't incapacitated. If a creature is already proficient in the chosen skill or tool, it adds twice its proficiency bonus to checks made with it. Additionally, when you use your Knowledge of the Ages feature, you can choose to replace the skill or tool used by this feature with the one you selected. At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet. #### Mind's Aegis Starting at 15th level, your mind becomes unassailable. You have advantage on Wisdom and Intelligence saving throws and immunity to psychic damage. #### Avatar of Enlightenment At 20th level, you gain the ability to transform into a being of pure knowledge. As an action, you become an ethereal, translucent avatar of psychic energy. For one minute, you gain the following benefits: - You have resistance to all damage. - You are proficient with all skills and tools. - When a creature hits you with an attack, it takes psychic damage equal to the damage you take from the attack. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
