Welcome to Michellin's Tasty Tome of Tricks.

There is magic in every kitchen and many a talented cook has found ways to infuse the arcane into their craft. In some curious cases, the opposite occurred, and advances to spellcraft emerged from humble cookeries.

Either seeking rare and dangerous ingredients, feeding boastful and rowdy adventurers, or simply protecting those they cook for, these arcane chefs are not to be trifled with. These are some of the tricks up their sleeves.

Chef's touch

Enchantment Cantrip

  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range: Self
  • Components: S, M (a glove or mitt, a piece of coal)
  • Duration: 1 minute.

Years of the kitchen have made you resilient to heat. A sprinkle of magic takes your resilience to the next level. For the duration of the spell, you can use your spellcasting ability instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of unarmed melee attacks, and they deal 1d4 cold damage.

Moreover, until the end of your next turn, you can safely hold onto extremely hot items without suffering damage.

Proto's Salt to the wound

1st level conjuration

  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range: 30ft
  • Components: V, M (rock salt)

You summon an outpouring of salt, generously seasoning a creature within range. The creature must make a Constitution saving throw. The target takes 3d8 necrotic damage and can not recover any Hit Points on a failed save. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns.

On a successful save, the target takes half as much damage and can still recover Hit Points.

If the target is missing any of its hit points, it has disadvantage on the constitution saving throw. This spell has no effect on undead and constructs.

At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, you can target one additional creature for each slot level above 1st

Flambé

2nd level evocation

  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range: 60ft, 10ft radius
  • Components: S, M (A shot of dark liquor, a piece of cast iron)

You conjure flames at a location. Each creature in a 10-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 3d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Before the start of your next turn, as a reaction when one of the creatures makes an attack roll or ability check, you can cause them an additional 1d8 fire damage and impose disadvantage on their attack roll or check, as they briefly blaze up in flames

At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the initial damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 2nd

Colette's Well oiled operation

3rd level enchantment

  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range: Self
  • Components: V, S, M (A chef's hat, 3 ounces of butter)
  • Duration: 1 minute, concentration.

Years of running a kitchen bestows a unique kind of leadership. Choose 3 creatures that can hear you. They gain the following benefits:

  • Their movement increases by 10ft
  • the targets' movement is unaffected by difficult terrain.
  • Once while the spell is active, each targeted creature can use the help action as a bonus action.

At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, you can target one additional creature for each slot level above 3rd

Incite gluttony

4th level enchantment

  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range: 30ft, 20ft sphere
  • Components: V, S, M (40 gold of spices)
  • Duration: 1 minute, concentration.

You target a meal or food item within range, and consume a batch of spices to make it incredibly enticing to creatures around it. Creatures of your choice within a 20ft radius of the food must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, they are compelled to rush towards the meal and desire to consume it above all other desires.

A target isn't compelled to move into an obviously deadly hazard, such as a fire or pit, but it will provoke opportunity attacks to move in the designated direction. Targets will also be aggressive towards anyone preventing them from accessing the food, or obviously competing for it.

The effect persists for the duration, until dismissed, or until someone consumes the meal. This spell can target non-conventional food items, so long as the DM rules that the targets would want to eat such items. However, this spell has no effect on undead and constructs.
