Otherworldly Patron - The Dark Powers
The Dark Powers are a collective of entities native to the Shadowfell’s Demiplane of Dread. Wardens of the planes’ most horrific villains, known as Darklords, these entities are unknowable and untouchable to the mortals that dwell in their lands. Sometimes, however, when a truly desperate individual calls for aid, the mists appear and sweep them away, whispering promises of untold power. You will never know how many Dark Powers gift you power, but you assume their mission is the same; to turn you into a servitor of darkness.
Dark Powers Expanded Spell
The Dark Powers lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.
| Spell Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| 1st | fog cloud, ray of sickness |
| 2nd | blindness/deafness, phantasmal force |
| 3rd | speak with dead, stinking cloud |
| 4th | death ward, phantasmal killer |
| 5th | cloudkill, contagion |
Darklord's Form
You manifest an aspect of your patron’s dreadful power. As a bonus action, you transform for 1 minute. You gain the following benefits while transformed:
- You gain a number of temporary hit points at the start each of your turns equal to your proficiency bonus + half your Warlock level, rounded up.
- Once per turn, when you hit a creature with an attack, you can force it to make a Wisdom saving throw, and if the saving throw fails, the target is frightened of you until the end of your next turn.
- You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.
You can transform once and regain the ability to do so when you finish a short or long rest. The appearance of your Darklord’s Form looks much like yourself but shrouded in mist and appearing corrupted. For example, you may appear undead, lycanthropic, fiendish, or some other form of a villainous creature.
Shadow Touched
Starting at 6th level, your patron’s powers have a profound effect on your body and magic. You don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe.
In addition, when you cast a Warlock spell that deals damage, you can replace that damage type with necrotic damage. While in your Darklord’s form, you ignore resistance to necrotic damage, and treat immunity as resistance.
Mortal Husk
At 10th level, your connection to the Domains of Dread now saturate your body. You gain resistance to necrotic damage, and gain advantage on saving throws against being frightened. If you are in your Darklord’s form, you instead become immune to necrotic damage and gain immunity to the frightened condition.
In addition, when you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can cause your fleeting essence to siphon off of another living creature. One creature of your choice within 30 feet of you takes necrotic damage equal to your Warlock level + your Charisma modifier, and you regain hit points equal to half the damage dealt. Once you use this feature, you gain 1 level of exhaustion and can’t use this feature again until you finish a long rest.
Mist Form
The Dark Powers have taken a genuine interest in your potential and have granted you the ability to manipulate the mists as they do. As an action, you can turn into a spectral, misty figure. You can remain in this form for up to 1 hour or until you are reduced to 0 hit points. While in this misty form, you gain the following benefits:
- You gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.
- When you cast a spell of the conjuration or necromancy school, the spell doesn’t require verbal, somatic, or material components that lack a gold cost.
- You have a flying speed equal to your walking speed and can hover. You can move through creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain, but you take 1d10 force damage if you end your turn inside a creature or an object.
- While you are using your Darklord’s Form, once during each of your turns when you deal necrotic damage to a creature, you regain hit points equal to half the amount of necrotic damage dealt.
Once you use this feature, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
