<br> Whenever a being attempts (and fails) to treat a [bleed](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions/#TOC-Bleed) effect that afflicts a being that is affected by Contagion, they become afflicted by that same [bleed](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions/#TOC-Bleed) effect (as well as any secondary effects that accompany it) as well. For example, let's say that Nikolai the [sanguine sorcerer](https://www.gmbinder.com/share/-LWMZYORqW01dZkNhvm7) is currently engaged in combat with Talvinor the [cavalier](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/cavalier/) and Narissa the [oracle](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/oracle/). Nikolai casts [Sanguine Congregation](https://www.gmbinder.com/share/-Mrd8tG4Ve9DmaZa5fMl) on Talvinor (while there are three other beings that are afflicted by a [bleed](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions/#TOC-Bleed) effect that Nikolai had inflicted upon them), causing Talvinor to begin to [bleed](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions/#TOC-Bleed) for 4 points of damage each round. During the following round, Nikolai casts [Anywhere But Here](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/a/anywhere-but-here/) on himself in order to escape from the battle. With Nikolai gone, Narissa rushes over to Talvinor and retrieves her medical equipment from her bag; she makes a [Heal](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/skills/heal) check as she attempts to stop Talvinor from [bleeding](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions/#TOC-Bleed). However, the result of her [Heal](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/skills/heal) check is less than 16, so her attempt fails. As a result of this failure, she becomes affected by the effect of [Sanguine Congregation](https://www.gmbinder.com/share/-Mrd8tG4Ve9DmaZa5fMl) as well (i.e., she begins [bleeding](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions/#TOC-Bleed) for 4 points of damage each round, also she becomes affected by Contagion).
