Aberrant Dragon
An aberrant dragon is a dragon that has been exposed to raw psionic powers, imbuing it with such powers as well. Aberrant dragons can often be found near aboleth, psionic monasteries and places where the astral plane leaks into the material world.
Aberrant Dragon Traits
Only a true dragon can transform into an aberrant dragon, and only if it is born on the astral plane or near sites of high psionic powers. Once a dragon becomes an aberrant dragon, it is impossible to reverse it without the aid of powerful, high level magic.
When a dragon becomes an aberrant dragon, it retains its statistics except as described below. The aberrant dragon might retain or lose any or all of its lair actions or inherit new ones, as the DM sees fit.
Type. The aberrant dragon's type changes from dragon to abberation.
Damage Resistances. The dragon has resistance to force and psychic damage.
Skill Proficiency: Perception. The dragon's proficiency bonus is doubled for its Wisdom (Perception) checks.
New Action: Mystic Breath. Any damage-dealing breath weapon possessed by the dragon deals psychic damage instead of its original damage type.
New Trait: Alien Mind. If a creature tries to read the dragon's thoughts or deals psychic damage to it, that creature must succeed on a DC 15 Intelligence saving throw or be stunned until the end of its next turn.
New Trait: Innate Spellcasting (Psionics) (Young or older). The dragon's innate spellcasting ability is Intelligence (use breath weapon save DC for spell save DC). It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no components:
At will: detect thoughts, locate object
3/ day: telekinesis (Adult or older)
1/day: dominate monster (Ancient only)
New Trait: Magic Resistance. The dragon has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
New Trait: Telepathy. The dragon can communicate telepathically with any creature it can see within 120 feet of it. If the creature understands at least one language, it can respond to the dragon telepathically.
Aberrant Dragon Challenge Rating
Due to the increase of potent resistances and traits, the power of the dragon is higher than others. These changes typically increase the original dragon's CR by about 1-2.
