Warlock: The Tarrasque

The Tarrasque

Few actively choose to make a pact with the Tarrasque, as it is a being that is less intelligent than other patrons. However, the Tarrasque is a being of such power and notoriety, that its very essence reaches out to those who are in need of power. The power of the Tarrasque is one of mindless rage, and destruction, wishing to strike down all that is before it. Many can hold off against the raw anger of the Tarrasque for most of the time, but during certain moments its sheer force can sweep over them. Those who end up being touched by the power of the Tarrasque are those who seek revenge, or those who curse the very world they live in and wish to see it crumble. The Tarrasque often takes its hold while the chosen person is under intense emotions of grief, pain, or anger. The Tarrasque cannot speak, however those who make the Tarrasque their patron can see into the dark and agonzing mind of the beast from time to time, often going mad with the sheer hatred for the world the creature possesses. The Tarrasque is a harbinger of destruction and doom, that appears during times of crisis to bring about it's destruction. The Tarrasque has no other motives other than the total annihilation of the world it hates so much. Not all are merely reached by the Tarrasque however. Some may seek the beast out for whatever reason. Those that do go mad much more quickly, as they are more directly bound to the Tarrasque's rage. Some things to think about, or options with using this patron. If you were able to directly approach the Tarrasque you probably had quite a bit of power. If you are starting at lower levels think about what caused you to lose the power you once had. Another thing to keep in mind is how you will balance out the destructive tendencies of those bound to the Tarrasque with being a part of a cohesive party. You might consider having this be a bond with the very concept of the Tarrasque. A bond with the force and emotions that it represents, or make the Tarrasque intelligent. DMs think of the ways the Tarrasque would communicate. Would it treat this servant like such, or would it ignore it most of the time. All of these are up to the players and the DM to figure out to make an engaging character at the end of the day.

Expanded Spell List

The Tarrasque lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

Tarrasque Expanded Spells
Spell Level Spells
1 Earth Tremor, Hunter's Mark
2 See Invisibility, Knock
3 Haste, Protection from Energy
4 Staggering Smite, Stone Skin
5 Wrath of Nature, Bigby's Hand

Variant Rule

If the DM allows it you can play with a variant rule to learn the expanded spells you gain from this subclass, and have them not count against the number of spells you learn. If playing with this rule, you gains spells at the same level you would gain the spell slot of their level.

Flavoring Expanded Spells

You might want to change how the spells you cast from your expanded list are flavored. Here are a few suggestions. Earth Tremor could be changed to stomping your feet. Knock could be physically bursting through the door, Wrath of Nature could be the anger of the Tarrasque possessing the nearby environment, and Bigby's Hand can be flavored as the hand of the Tarrasque.

Powerful Carapace

At level 1 your physical attributes change to become more like the Tarrasque's. You gain the following benefits:

• Your hit point maximum increases by 1, and it increases by 1 again whenever you gain a level in this class.

• As an action, you can gain a base AC of 13 + your Constitution modifier if you aren't wearing armor, and your skin assumes a rough and spiky appearance. This effect lasts until you end it as a bonus action, you are incapacitated, or you don armor other than a shield.

•As an action you can make an unarmed strike on one target dealing 1d8 slashing damage + your Strength Modifier. You gain an additional attack with this feature at 5th level, 3 attacks at 11th level, and 4 attacks at 17th level.

Mindless Rage

Starting at 6th level, you gain proficiency in Intimidation, and can double your check. Additionally, as your mind is so clouded by the Tarrasque's rage, spells that would read your thoughts do not affect you and the caster of such a spell takes 2d6 psychic damage. Additionally your unarmed attacks from Powerful Carapace count as magical for the sake of overcoming resistance and immunity.

Powerful Body

At level 10 the Tarrasques power further alters your body. You count as 1 size large than you are for all purposes. Addionally you can add half your Constitution modifier rounded down to all Strength based attack rolls, and Strength and Dexterity Checks. At level 14 you can also add this bonus to your damage rolls on Strength based Attacks.

Refelctive Carapace

At level 14 your skin becomes a barrier to stop all assaults. You have immunity to damage from magic missile and line spells. When such a spell targets you, you can use your reaction to deal 1d6 damage of the same type as the spell to the caster.

Deadly Rampage

Variant Rule

If the DM allows it you can choose to substitute this feature for the normal level 20 warlock feature.

At level 20 you can briefly gain the true power of the Tarrasque. As an action you gain the following effects for 1 minute:

• Your Strength and Constitution both become 30

•You have advantage on Saving Throws against spells or other magical effects.

•You gain a +2 bonus to AC

After this effect ends you gain 3 levels of exhaustion and cannot use it again until you take a long rest.
