New Roguish Archetype

At 3rd level, a rogue gains the Roguish Archetype feature. The following option is available to a rogue, in addition to those offered in the Player's Handbook.

The Analyst

Your focus is on the greatest weapon a rogue can wield: your mind. You can connect the dots between details that others would deem insignificant, allowing you to determine your foes' hidden strengths and crucial weaknesses.

Analysts can be found in many walks of life. They may work as spies, as knowledgeable detectives, or as studious killers for hire.

Esoterica

When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with one of the following skills: Arcana, History, Nature, or Religion.

Deadeye

Starting at 3rd level, you can strike with calculated precision. When making an attack with a ranged or finesse weapon, you can use your Intelligence modifier, instead of Dexterity modifier, for the Attack and Damage Rolls.

Cunning Analysis

At level 3, you can use the bonus action granted by your Cunning Action to quickly assess a creature's behaviors, allowing you to find an exploitable weakness.

Make an Intelligence check using a skill appropriate to your target's creature type (either Arcana, History, Nature, or Religion) contested by your target's passive Charisma (Deception) check. If you succeed on the check, you can use your Sneak Attack on that creature for 1 round even if you don't have advantage on the attack roll, but not if you have disadvantage on it.

If you use this a second turn in a row against the same creature, you have advantage on the check.

Gauge

Starting at 7th level, when you succeed on a check with Cunning Analysis, you learn one fact of your choice about your enemy from the list below.

  • You learn roughly what the creature's current hit points are. You learn whether it is above 90%, above 50%, above 10%, or below 10% of its maximum hit point total.
  • You learn where the creature's Armor Class is within one of the given ranges: 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20, etc.
  • You learn one of the creature's attacks that you do not already know. You only learn what the attack does, not its numeric values.
  • Choose a type of action (such as Action or Reaction). You learn one of the creature's actions that you do not already know. You only learn what the action does, not its numeric values.
  • Choose a damage type. You learn whether the creature's resistances or vulnerabilities to that damage type.

For the purposes of Gauge, any selectable feature (such as a spell or maneuver) is an individual action.

Sweeping Analysis

At 13th level, you can analyze several enemies simultan-eously. When you use Cunning Analysis, you can target a number of creatures equal to your Intelligence modifier at once. Roll once, and compare the result to each creature's passive Charisma (Deception)

Known Quantities

At level 17, your memory is incredibly keen. When you see a creature use an attack or action, or you identify an attack or action with Gauge, you can remember it perfectly regardless of how much time passes.

As long as you remember a creature's attacks or actions, attack rolls made with them have disadvantage and saving throws you roll against them have advantage.

Identifying Creature Types

The Player's Handbook offers some suggestions on how skills can be used to identify creature types, but it is not comprehensive. If you are not sure what the most appropriate skill to use is, use the list below as a suggestion.

Arcana. Aberration, Construct, Elemental, Monstrosity

History. Dragon, Giant, Humanoid

Nature. Beast, Fey, Plant, Ooze

Religion. Celestial, Fiend, Undead

These are not strict rules. A statue animated with the holy power of a deity may require an Intelligence (Religion) check despite its creature type. A famous undead monster that has arisen after centuries of slumber may be analyzed with either Intelligence (Religion) or Intelligence (History). Check with your DM to determine the proper skill for identification.
