Stellari
"Destiny is a funny thing. You
never know how things are
going to work out. But if you
keep an open mind and an open
heart, I promise you will find your
own destiny.”
— Iroh, The Dragon of the West
Mystical beings of starlight and the space
in between, Stellari are rarely native to
Material Plane as their presence speaks of
activity in the stars. Yet some seek to make it
their home, a place to stay for as long as the night
sky shines.
The Beauty of Stars
Like the constellation painting the night sky, Stellari by their nature come in many shapes and sizes. Whether it be through the cosmic influence of fate or a powerful being in the great beyond, they find their former selves changed as their bodies become a translucent lunar blue painted with an array of starry lights. Items worn by the Stellari taken on this brilliant appearance, making it all but impossible to hide. This change expands deeply into their being, as certain aspects of the sky above become attuned to their very soul.
These changes happen quickly, oftentimes a person may find themselves a Stellari after a single night's rest. Some communities see this as a miracle, a new messenger of the heavens sent to aid them while others shun or violently harass those changed among them.
A Second Chance
Not all Stellari come to be from the transformation of other creatures, as some find their beginnings in the Astral Plane. Their guides to the afterlife lost, mortal souls find themselves cast adrift in the Astral Plane for eons at a time. Most are lost, but a few find themselves changed, like a nascent star an inner light will shine brightly on their surroundings. Reincarnated, they will descend newborn onto the world.
As if by fate, these hapless newborns land safely in the lands of creatures who will take it in until they have reached maturity. It is a tragic fate when destiny unravels and this promised safety is dashed away. A painful prospect, some Stellari firmly believe destiny chose a difficult beginning for these souls.
