Sorcerous Origin: Astral Sorcery

A Soul Born of Void

For some reason or another, your body has been a conduit for magic as long as you've been alive, by way of your innate connection to the power within the vast expanse of the Astral Plane, the great void between planes. Whether the circumstances of your new powers were a reborn soul, a parentless conception as you popped into being, or any other way for the void to seep into your soul, what matters is that you're here now, a link to the place between places.

Astral Sorcerer Quirks

At your option, you can pick or roll on the Astral Sorcerer Quirks table to create a quirk for your character.

d6 Quirk
1 You have no sense of temperature, but it still affects your body.
2 You have no sense of taste, but you still need to eat.
3 Your eyes have no color, as your irises are vantablack.
4 Your appearance alters to take on qualities of the Astral Plane when casting magic.
5 You are abnormally light, as though you you are simply the void itself wearing skin.
6 Your voice may sound like several speaking at once.

Astral Magic

Due to your connections to the void, you learn additional spells when you gain certain levels in this class, as shown on the Astral Magic Table. Each spell counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of sorcerer spells you know. These spells can’t be replaced when you gain a level in this class.

Astral Magic Table

1st Thunderwave, Shield
3rd Misty Step, Hold Person
5th Pulse Wave, Thunder Step
7th Banishment, Dimension Door
9th Gravity Sinkhole, Hold Monster

Planar Understanding

When you choose this Sorcerous Origin at 1st level, your connection to the Astral Plane gives you an innate knowing of the void. When in the Astral Plane, you can add your proficiency bonus to checks to find your way to a specific color pool. You must have visited the specific plane you're looking for at least once.

Astral Modifications

When you choose this Sorcerous Origin at 1st level, you can instill astral energy into your spells, twisting their effects into something more potent. At 1st level, you gain the following benefits:

Forced Movement. When a spell you cast deals force damage, the target can be moved (5 x your charisma modifier) feet away from you as a reaction. The target(s) must make a Strength saving throw against your spell save DC. If the spell already forces movement, use whichever amount of movement is higher.

Axis Control. When a spell you cast forces movement on another creature or creatures, you can select a number of those creatures equal to your Charisma modifier(minimum one) and move them in a different direction than what the spell dictates.

You can only use one of these features per turn. In addition, you learn the Eldritch Blast cantrip. It counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but doesn't count against the number of cantrips you know.

Dark Matter Manipulation

At 6th level, the magic you cast can be infused with the power of the void, giving your spells new qualities. Using the level of whatever spell you cast in sorcery points, you can shift the damage type of any damaging spell to force damage.

Celestial Step

At 14th level, your magical birthright allows you to further wield the power of the plane between planes, permitting quick and easy travel. While you are not underground or indoors, you can use your bonus action to teleport up to 60ft to a location you can see. You can spend 3 sorcery points to bring another creature along with you during your teleportation. If the creature is unwilling, they must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. You can select a number of creatures equal to your Charisma modifier(minimum one), spending an additional sorcery point for each one.

Projection Perfection

At 18th level, your control over the vast void of the Astral Plane has granted you incredible powers, and allowed you to further manipulate the fabric of the world around you. All of your Astral Sorcery features take one less sorcery point to use. Celestial Step can be used while indoors or underground, and during the teleportation you may choose to instead swap to the Astral Plane or back. You can only go to the Astral Plane in this way an amount of times equal to your Charisma modifier + 1 every long rest.
