Path of the Elderwood Aspirant

The Path of the Elderwood Aspirant is one of growth. Tapping into the power of ancient forests, barbarians on this Path take on the aspects of forests that have allowed them to survive for centuries, transforming themselves in the process.

Elderwood Growth

At 3rd level, your time among ancient forests has imparted in you a measure of their tremendous growth. When you begin raging, and at the start of each of your turns while you are raging, you gain a stage of Elderwood Growth, up to a maximum equal to 1/3rd your Barbarian level. Your appearance begins to change based off your Elderwood Growth stage, as shown in the Elderwood Growth table, and you lose all Elderwood Growth stage when your rage ends.

Elderwood Growth stage Change
1 You bleed sap instead of blood
2 Any hair, feathers or fins you have transform into vines or leaves
3 Your skin or scales take on a bark-like texture
4 Branches or flowers begin to sprout out of you
5 Your flesh and bones become replaced by living wood that functions in their place
6 Your creature type becomes Plant, replacing any other creature type you have

The Weight of Timber

At 3rd level, you have learned to strike with the weight of a tree. While you're raging, once on each of your turns when you hit a creature with a weapon attack you can add a number of d4's equal to your Elderwood Growth stage to the damage roll.

Wild Growth

At 6th level, your anger stirs the area around you. When you use Reckless Attack the ground within 10ft of you becomes difficult terrain until the start of your next turn. If used while raging, you additionally gain temporary hit points equal to your Elderwood Growth stage, which last until the start of your next turn.

Natural Communion

At 10th level, your connection to nature grants you the ability to commune with the plant life around you. You can cast the Speak with Plants spell at will and without expending spell slots.

Defence of the Ancients

At 14th level, you are able to control your growth to endure the hazards you face. Whenever you gain a stage of Elderwood Growth you can choose a damage type to gain resistance to until the end of your rage.

Additionally, while raging, if you are smaller than Large, you become Large, along with anything you are wearing. If you lack the room to become Large, your size doesn't change.
