Prismatic Mantle

Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement)

This mantle glitters in all the colors of the rainbow and is laden with vibrant crystal shards. Despite its construction, the mantle is relatively quiet and light when worn.

While wearing this mantle, you gain the ability to reduce incoming elemental damage. When you take acid, cold, fire, lightning, or thunder damage, you may use your reaction to gain resistance to one or more of those types. If you would have resistance regardless, the mantle instead grants immunity. This benefit only applies to the triggering damage.

When you use the mantle to reduce damage of a specific type, it stores the elemental energy from the attack. While storing energy of a type, the mantle cannot absorb further damage of that type until the stored energy is dissipated. When you use the mantle to reduce damage, record the type and by how much the damage was reduced. Each dawn, subtract 1d6 from any recorded damage reductions, as the mantle passively dissipates energy.

As an action, you can choose one type of elemental energy currently stored within the mantle and discharge it in a pulse. Each creature within 10 feet of you must make a DC 16 Dexterity (for acid, fire, and lightning) or Constitution (for cold and thunder) saving throw. On a failure, a target takes damage of the chosen type equal to the amount of damage of that type that is currently stored in the mantle. On a success, a target takes half damage.

If you emit a pulse of a damage type, or the amount of a stored damage type is reduced to 0 at dawn, that damage type is considered dissipated, and you can use the mantle to absorb damage of that type once again.

While wearing the mantle, you have disadvantage on stealth checks made while in bright light.
