Claim Identity
3rd-level transmutation
- Casting Time: 1 action
- Range: Touch
- Components: V, S, M (a needle and thread)
- Duration: 1 hour
- Classes: Bard, Druid, Wizard, Warlock
You reach out and touch a living humanoid. The target must make a Constitution saving throw or have its face stolen by you for the duration.
You steal all of the target’s facial features, vocal cues, and identifying physical traits change, transforming it into an unremarkable member of its race and gender, and you transform into a perfect likeness of the target’s true form. Your statistics do not change apart from your size.
For the duration, you have advantage on all ability checks made to convince anyone that you are the target of this spell.
This spell also prevents the creature from assuming its true form through magical means.
You can end the spell early as a bonus action.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th or 6th level, the spell's duration increases to 6 hours. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th or 8th level, the spell's duration increases to 12 hours. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 9th level, the spell lasts indefinitely.
Greater Claim Identity
6th-level transmutation
- Casting Time: 1 action
- Range: Touch
- Components: V, S, M (a silver needle worth 100 GP and thread, which the spell consumes)
- Duration: 1 hour
- Classes: Bard, Wizard, Warlock
You reach out and touch a living humanoid. The target must make a Constitution saving throw or be transformed into a porcelain mask for the duration. The target remains aware of everything it can see or hear while transformed. The target can’t speak, move, or perform any action that would require the use of its body.
Any creature which dons this mask transforms into a perfect likeness of the target’s true form. Their statistics do not change apart from their size.
While a creature dons this mask, it has advantage on all ability checks made to convince anyone that it is the target of this spell.
Any damage done to the mask ends the spell immediately.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th or 8th level, the spell's duration increases to 6 hours. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 9th level, the spell's duration increases to 12 hours.
Mask of Many Faces
Wondrous item, artifact (requires attunement)
This featureless porcelain mask appears unremarkable at first glance, but it holds a long bloody history.
A boon from a goddess of deception to her champion, this mask is said to grant the wearer an unparalleled ability to imitate another person.
Claim Ego. When this mask is placed on a person who has died within 1 hour, the body is absorbed by the mask and added to its list of identities. The owner of the absorbed body cannot be brought back to life, short of the true resurrection, or wish spells.
Assume Persona. When the creature attuned to this mask dons it, they may assume any identity the mask has claimed. Once an identity has been chosen, the creature transforms into a perfect likeness of the chosen identity. Once in their new form, the creature has access to all of the identity's memories and quirks.
Once an identity is assumed, the guise is perfect and short of contradictory information, no creature or deity will have reason to doubt the wearer's identity.
All attempts to divine the whereabouts of your true self will fail, and all similar attempts directed at your assumed identity you direct to you.
Removing the mask returns the wearer to its original identity.
Lose Identity. So perfect is the imitations of the mask, that any unattuned creature who wears the mask forgets who they are and believes that they are, in fact, the assumed identity.
Destroying the Mask. While the mask does not contain the souls of the identities it has stolen, it does have their memories and regrets. To destroy the mask, one must assume each and every identity it has taken and resolve all of their regrets and unfinished business. As each is resolved, the mask loses that identity. Once every identity has been lost, the mask loses its magic.
