Solari

Calmness is the hallmark of those who are mighty.

                                                                — Escanor, the Solari Knight

Children of the Sun

Beings sculpted by the very inhabitants of the sun, these children of the helian race are exiled from their place of creation for purposes unknown to any but the helian themselves. It is the conclusion of many scholars that they are incapable of living on the sun like their creators due to their lack of heat resistance, but others suspect a more nefarious purpose for their expulsion.

For those who witness the event, solari are said to be literally born from the sun, when a piece of the sun in the form of a shooting star falls to the material plane and a cradle of earth is formed.

Dual Nature

Once a solari reaches an adolescence age, their power emerges into one of duality. During the day, a solari is courageous, powerful, and full of pride. At night, solari tend to be more shy, physically frail, and sensitive. Despite this, they can pass for humans, and usually try to live among them.

Solari resemble humans, for the most part, their size and physique depend on the time of the day. During the night, a solari is only about 4 feet in height and visibly scrawny, and may appear to be a human child while their star is yet young. After dawn, a solari grows to nearly double their height, and becomes visibly muscular. During the day, a solari can pass for an extremely large and muscular adult or can be compared to goliaths.

Solari Traits

Your solari character has a body of traits that link it with all other solari.

Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma and Constitution scores are increased by 1.

Age. Solari age at the same rate as humans until they reach age 30. After which, their aging will cease, and the solari will continue living for as long as the sun which they are birthed from continues to shine.

Alignment. The alienation a solari experiences breeds independence, and they overall tend towards the gentler freedoms that the chaotic alignments grant.

Size. Granted they are not in direct sunlight, a solari's height is around 4 to 4 ½ feet tall, and their weight is 60 to 100 lbs. Your size is small.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Pride Flare. When you would successfully strike a creature with a weapon attack, you can use a bonus action to ignite your strike with solar radiance. Your attack deals bonus radiant damage equal to your level. After you use pride flare, you can't use it again until you complete a short or long rest.

Cruel Sun. As a bonus action, you can force creatures within a 15-foot radius centered on you to make a Constitution save as if under the effects of extreme heat, as described in chapter 5 of the Dungeon Master's Guide. This effect lasts until the start of your next turn, and any creature who enters this 15-foot radius while Cruel Sun is still in effect must make the same save. After you use Cruel Sun, you can't use it again until you complete a long rest.

Sun that Pierces The Moon. Starting at 5th level, you have further tapped into the sun's blessing. When it is after dusk, as an action, you may transform into your larger form. For 1 minute, you may treat the time of day as after dawn for the purposes of your Solar Power trait. Once you use this trait, you can not use it again until you finish a long rest.

Sun Soul. You have resistance to radiant damage dealt by sunlight effects (the dawn spell for example), and automatically succeed on Constitution saving throws brought on by extreme heat.

Solar Power. After dawn, you have the following benefits:

  • Your base walking speed is 35 feet.
  • Your size doubles in all dimensions, and your weight is multiplied by four. This growth increases your size from small to medium. If there isn't enough room for you to double your size, you attain the maximum possible size in the space available.
  • You add 1d4 to Strength checks, Strength damage rolls, and Strength saving throws.
  • You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened and Intimidation checks.
  • You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
  • The area in a 10-foot radius around you cannot be affected by darkness, magical or otherwise.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and the Primordial language Ignan.

The Solari Namesake

Due to their name, their perfectly chiseled appearance, and the radiance they emit, Solari have been mistakenly related to the celestials known as Solar by common folk. In truth, they are named by their makers after the sun occupying Realmspace, Sol.
