Metaspells
This class of spells are designed to affect other spells, which includes the well-known counterspell. When wizards delved deeper into the intricacies of counterspell, they discovered different ways to alter other casters’ magic.
Echospell
3rd level evocation
- Casting Time: 1 reaction, which you take when you see a creature within 30 feet of you finish casting a spell
- Range: 30 feet
- Components: S
- Duration: Instantaneous
- Classes: Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard
You attempt to duplicate a creature’s spell as it is being cast. The target spell must be 1st level and cannot require material components with an associated cost. If the creature is willing, you also cast the targeted spell at 1st level. If the creature is unwilling, you must succeed on an ability check using your spellcasting ability to cast the spell. The DC equals 10 + the spell’s level.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, you can target a spell of a level equal to half the level of the spell slot you used, and you cast the duplicate spell at that level.
Linkspell
3rd level transmutation
- Casting Time: 1 reaction, which you take when you see an ally within 30 feet of you casting a spell
- Range: 30 feet
- Components: S
- Duration: Instantaneous
- Classes: Sorcerer, Wizard
You siphon your magic to an allied creature as it casts a spell. You increase the level of that spell by 1, to a maximum level for which the ally has spell slots. The spell is treated as being cast at that level. For example, if your ally casts charm person at 1st level, you can cast linkspell to make it a 2nd level charm person.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th or 6th level, you increase the target spell’s level by 2 levels, to a maximum level for which the ally has spell slots. When you use a spell slot of 7th level or higher, you increase the target spell's level by 3 levels, to a maximum level for which the ally has spell slots.
