Alternate Capstone Abilities

A few optional replacement features for almost every classes level 20 capstone abilities.

Barbarian

Legendary Rage

At 20th level, your rage has become the stuff of legends. While raging, you gain the following benefits:

  • You are immune to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from non-magical weapons.
  • Once per turn when you reduce a creature to 0 hit points, you can move up to half your movement speed and make two melee weapon attacks towards another creature as part of the same action.
  • Once per turn, if you fail a Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution saving throw you can immediately reroll. If you do so, you must use the new roll.
  • Your hit point maximum can not be reduced.
  • When you are reduced to 0 hit points, you can use your reaction to make 1 melee attack. If that attack deals damage, you drop to 1 hit point instead.

Bard

Incredible Inspiration

At 20th level, your mastery over magic is truly inspiring. Your bardic Inspiration becomes a d20.

Additionally once per turn, when you cast a spell you can roll one bardic inspiration die to upcast the level of the spell equal to the amount rolled, to a maximum of 9th level, provided the spell can be upcast. A creature casting a spell with one of your bardic inspiration die can do the same.

Cleric

Holy Warrior

At 20th level, your divine magic grants you the following benefits:

  • When a creature attacks you, it takes radiant damage equal to your wisdom modifier.
  • At the start of each of your turns, you regain hit points equal to 5 + your Wisdom modifier if you have no more than half of your hit points left. You don’t gain this benefit if you have 0 hit points.
  • When you use your channel divinity to turn undead, your channel divinity is not expended.
  • When you use your Divine Intervention feature and it fails, you regain 20 hit points and immediately regain 2 expended spell slots of 3rd level or lower.

Druid

Nature Shape

At 20th level, your access to wild shape is transformed and expanded. When you use your wild shape you gain the following benefits:

  • You can transform into a dragon, elemental, fey, monstrosity, or plant type creature of CR level 2 or lower.
  • You have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from non-magical weapons.
  • You have advantage on saving throws against spells and have resistance against the damage of spells.

Fighter

Killer Instincts

At 20th level, your martial skills are pushed to the very limit of mortal might. When you activate this feature as a bonus action, for 1 minute you gain the following benefits:

  • Once per turn, you can grant yourself advantage on one weapon attack.
  • You have advantage on all constitution, dexterity, and strength saving throws.
  • All your weapon damage rolls are doubled, including on a critical hit.

Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again.

Monk

Transcended Body

At 20th level, your mastery of martial arts and ki grant you the following benefits:

  • Your Martial Arts die is now 1d12.
  • You can attack three times, instead of twice, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.
  • You don't need to spend a ki point to take your flurry of blows, patient defense, or step of the winds features.
  • When you use your stunning strike feature, the ki point used is not expended if the creature succeeds on it's saving throw.

Paladin

Godly Warrior

At 20th level, you fight with a higher power of your side. You gain the following benefits:

  • You can attack three times when you take the attack action.
  • Your AC increases by your Charisma modifier while you are conscious.
  • You can use the cleric's divine intervention feature.
  • As an action, you can recover all your hit points and have all your attacks count as a critical hit until the start of your next turn. Once you use this ability, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Ranger

At 20th level, you are a master hunter and your skills reflect that. You gain the following benefits:

  • You gain a 30 foot increase to your movement speed, as well as a climbing and swimming speed equal to your walking speed.
  • Once per turn, you can add your wisdom modifier to an attack roll or damage roll you make.
  • You can add your wisdom modifier to any ability check or saving throw you make.

Rogue

At 20th level, your legendary cunning is unmatched. You gain the following benefits:

  • Once per turn, when you attack a creature you can deal half your sneak attack damage to the target even if the target does not trigger sneak attack.
  • You can your cunning actions twice on your turn.
  • you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.

Sorcerer

At 20th level, you are a powerful sorcerer to be feared and respected. You gain the following benefits:

  • You regain all spent sorcery points when you finish a short or long rest.
  • You have access to all your metamagic options at all times.

Warlock

At 20th level, you become a living vessel for your patron's awesome power. You gain the following benefits:

  • You gain two more eldritch invocations of your choice and can change any of your invocations on a short or long rest.
  • When you finish a short or long rest, you can change your pact boon.
  • You gain two more pact magic spell slots.
  • You can choose 2 spells of 5th level or lower from any class. You always have these spells prepared and can cast them at their lowest level once without expending a spell slot.

Wizard
