### Biology and Appearance Outwardly, Zelosians were nearly identical to Humans in height, build, hair and skin pigmentation, and their ability to grow facial hair. Because of this, Zelosians could keep their origins a closely guarded secret and were commonly misidentified as Near-Humans by outsiders. Zelosians possessed a number of plant-like characteristics. Their blood was a green chlorophyllic sap. Additionally, a large portion of the muscles of Zelosians were cellulose fibers, with some form of nastic response apparently being involved in their reflexes. Zelosians still consumed vegetable and animal product-based foods, but could also photosynthesize through their skin. ### Society and Culture Zelosians were night-blind, being unable to see in any light dimmer than that provided by a full moon. This meant that many Zelosians stayed indoors at night, and held many superstitions about the night. Alcohol had no intoxicating effect on Zelosians. However, refined sugar had a comparable one; a tablespoon would have affected Zelosians as four ounces of strong liquor might a Human. ### Names Zelosian names are usually simple and rarely have harsh syllables, though there are exceptions.
**Birth Names.** Celot, Galleros, Nagat, Feelah
**Surnames.** Nul, Dil, Ratua, Derin
### Zelosian Traits As a Zelosian, you have the following special traits.
***Ability Score Increase.*** Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Charisma score increases by 1.
***Age.*** Zelosians reach adulthood at around 30 and can live to be about 500 years old.
***Alignment.*** Zelosians tend toward no particular alignment. The best and worst are found among them.
***Size.*** Zelosians typically stand 5 to 6 feet tall and generally weigh about 100 lbs. Regardless of your position in that range, your size is Medium.
***Speed.*** Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
***Type.*** Your creature type is both Humanoid and Plant.
***Intoxicant Resistance.*** Your plant-like physicality means that intoxicants have different effects on you than most creatures. You have advantage on saving throws against poison, and you have resistance against poison damage (explained in chapter 9). However, sugar acts as an intoxicant for you, and consuming sugar can cause you to become inebriated.
***Photosynthesis:*** You can be sustained by sunlight when food is scarce. You are able to go a number of days without food equal to 3 + twice your Constitution modifier before suffering exhaustion.
***Nastic Reflexes.*** Whenever you make a Dexterity ability check, attack roll, or saving throw, you can choose to add 1d4 to the result. You can choose to do this after the check is rolled, but before the DM determines if you’ve passed or failed the check. You cannot do so again until you complete a short or long rest.
***Naturalist.*** You are proficient in Nature.
***Near-Human Appearance.*** Despite their strange biology, Zelosians look nearly identical to humans. When you make a Charisma check to convince another creature that you are human, you have advantage on the check.
***Night Blindness.*** Zelosians are night-blind, unable to see in light any dimmer than a full moon. You have disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when whatever you are trying to perceive is in dim lighting.
***Languages.*** You can speak, read, and write Galactic Basic and Zelosian. Zelosian is a harmonic language with few harsh syllables or tones.
