You can use this race instead of the mechanics of the official dragonborn race. It keeps the same age, body type, typical alignment, history, and naming conventions of normal dragonborn.

Breath Weapon. As a descendant of dragons, you can make use of their notorious breath weapons.
At 1st level, you can use your action to exhale a blast of destructive energy. Your draconic ancestry determines the damage type of the exhalation. Make an attack roll against a creature or object within 60 ft. The ability modifier used for this attack is Constitution, and you can consider yourself proficient with this attack. On a hit, the target takes 1d10 damage + your Constitution modifier. Your draconic ancestry determines the damage type of this exhalation. This ability's damage increases by 1d10 when you reach 5th level (2d10), 11th level (3d10), and 17th level (4d10).
When you reach 3rd level, you can use your action to exhale a larger blast of destructive energy. Your draconic ancestry determines the size, shape, and damage type of this exhalation. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your draconic ancestry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 3d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. This ability's damage increases by 1d6 when you reach 8th level (4d6), 14th level (5d6), and 20th level (6d6). After you use this breath weapon, you can't use it again until you complete a short or long rest.
Damage Resistance. You have resistance to the damage type associated with your draconic ancestry.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
