Goldwing Seed

Wondrous item, rare

Natural to the Elemental Plane of Air, the long lived goldwing ash trees imbue each of its winged seeds with a tiny spark of magic to help them navigate through the strong winds of the plane and find suitable land to grow in.

When this seed is planted in fertile soil, a goldwing sprout will have grown by the next dawn, with 1d4 young pale green leaves that still hold some of the seed's magic to find its path. As a bonus action, you can pluck a leaf and attach it to a piece of ammunition or a weapon with the thrown property, granting it a +1 bonus to the attack and damage rolls of the next ranged attack made using it. Once an attack is made, the leaf looses its magic and begins to wither.

At sunrise, any unused leaves loose their magic, and if the goldwing sprout has been watered and kept under the sun for at least 1 hour the previous day, roll 2d4. A number of young magical leaves equal to the highest die roll will have grown, and if both dice roll the same number, one of the leaves will be of a golden color, like the wing of the original seed. This leaf grants a +3 bonus when used, instead of the normal +1.

If you pluck all the young leaves, roll a d20. On a roll of 1, new leaves won't retain the goldwing seed's magic and the sprout will become mundane.
