When people say "Follow your nose. You'll smell it before you see it" about the small bakery run by Gerda and Timmis Potwhistle, they are being wholly serious. The unassuming wattle and daub building's fumes tickle the senses from a way off, after which you're very likely to see the queue second.
Meet the Potwhistles
The biggest factor in the success of the Divine Scents Bakery is the passion and skill of its proprietors: Gerda and Timmis Potwhistle. There natives, they know most regular customers by name and reputation. When new faces come to gawp at the shelves of pastries, carefully counting out their coin, one of them will come to have a little chat. Neither Gerda nor Timmis will sell you anything without first knowing your name. You will be treated with respect, and respectful newcomers might find an extra Centurion Cake in their paper bag.
Do It Yourself
The Divine Scents Bakery could be a much bigger business if it wanted to be. Gerda and Timmis are happy to just work to their own limits and no further. There has been no lack of offers of patronage however. Many nobles have offered large sums of money for a stake in the business and have all been refused. There is a rule in the bakery: Any servant sent to the bakery with orders to buy pastries will be refused service, if the pastries aren't shared with the servant in question. This stopped some nobles from trying, and make the lives of many, many servants that much nicer.
