The Oathless (Ver. 1.1)

There are certain circumstances that might lead a paladin to lead a righteous life dedicated to helping others and vanquishing evil, yet not be dedicated to a god or domain.

One such circumstance is the story of a succubus paladin named Eludecia. After Eludecia felt true love for an angel and confessed to him, she began to walk the long road towards redemption as a paladin with this angels help in an effort to learn and embrace goodness. But after achieving her redemption, no god would be her patron because of her very nature. Despite this, Eludecia continues to uphold the values of righteousness and is ever determined to prove the gods wrong about her, not just for herself, but the allies who rely on her despite her origins.

Other such circumstances might be paladins disillusioned with their church and seek a different path.

Channel Self Determination

You gain the following Channel Divinity options. See the Sacred Oath class feature on page 85 of the Player's Handbook for how Channel Divinity works.

I'll Die Another Day. As a reaction to being reduced to 0 hit points by a spell or weapon attack, you can stay standing on your feet and cause the triggering attack to reduce you to a single hit point instead. If the creature that attacked you witnessed this act of defiance, they become frightened of you until the start of your next turn.

Impassioned Blow. If a creature that you can see scored a critical hit on you, you can use your Channel Divinity to cause your next attack to be a critical hit against the creature that scored a critical hit on you. You must make your attack role as normal to determine if you hit.

Aura of Resolve

At 7th level, you excude an unquenchable tenacity while you aren't incapacitated. Whenever you or a friendly creature within 5 feet of you takes damage, they gain a number of temporary hit points equal to 1d6 + your Charisma modifier. A creature can benefit from this aura once per round.

While a creature other than you has temporary hit points from your Aura of Resolve, you are immune to the charmed condition. If you were already charmed and an ally gains these temporary hit points, the effects of the charmed condition are ended.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 15 feet.

Unyielding Bonds

At 15th level, your Lay on Hands and Cleansing Touch features can be used as a bonus action on friendly creatures, other than yourself, that are within your Aura of Resolve, as your tenacious spirit and words of encouragement are enough to fill your companions with the will to fight on.

Envoy of Hope

At 20th level, you have become a symbol of mortal hope and willpower. As a bonus action, you gain the following benefits for the next minute:

  • You gain resistance to nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.

  • Creatures within your Aura of Resolve have advantage on weapon attack rolls.

  • Up to two friendly creatures within your Aura of Resolve can gain the benefits of the warding bond spell as though you casted it.

Once you use this bonus action, you can't use again until you finish a long rest, unless you expend a 5th-level spell slot to use it again.
