Travel Dragons
Using various steeds for long distance travel has been been extremely useful, because, as it turns out, large quadrupedal animals are a lot stronger and enduring than weak squishy bipeds.
But some folks aren't satisfied with horses or the odd dire wolf. No, they demand only the fiercest of nature's predators, the dragon. But, as it turns out, true dragons take exception to being religated to being transport, so they try the next thing, almost dragons.
Riding Drake
Created in a similar ritual used to create ambush drakes. These larger dragons serve a more menial roles such as burden and transport.
They do serve as loyal mounts to those they are bound to however, and their intelligence and long lifespan means that their riders will likely never be wanting for another mount again.
Riding Wyvern
These two-legged dragons are as foul-tempered and almost as dangerous as their wild counterparts. As such, owning one is not for the light of heart and are a serious sign of status for someone who rides such a beast.
These wyverns are raised from birth, and have to be meticulously cared for. Their poison barb is removed at birth to prevent them from fatally poisoning their rider during the rearing process and anyone else afterwards. Furthermore, their claws have to be trimmed regularly for similar reasons.
Variant: Riding Drake Steed
Some riding drakes bestowed to individuals who have proven themselves to an ancient dragon or draconic deity. Such riding drakes act as steeds per the find steed spell and have the following trait:
Bonded Steed. The drake can serve another creature as a steed, forming a magic, telepathic bond with that willing companion. While the two are bonded, the companion can sense what the drake senses as long as they are within 1 mile of each other. While the companion has mounted the drake, the companion shares the drake's Draconic Essense trait, and any spell the companion casts that can only target itself can also affect the drake. At any time and for any reason, the drake can end its service as a steed, ending the telepathic bond.
