Hexblade, Revisited

Hexblades are warlocks which make pacts with sentient magic weapons, imbued with magic by a god or other powerful entity. These pacts are much more personal than those experienced by most Warlocks, since a Hexblade's patron actively adventures with them. While this means the Hexblade is more beholden to the whims of their patron, it also allows for a deeper connection.

Weapon of Legend

When you choose to form this pact at 1st level, a sentient weapon binds itself to you. The weapon starts weak, but gets stronger as you travel with it. Choose Blackrazor, Equinox, Sever, Wave, or Seraph. Each sentient weapon is magical, and has the following properties:

  • The weapon can telepathically communicate with you while you hold it, has hearing and darkvision out to 30 feet, and can read common and one language given in its description.
  • When you make an attack roll with the weapon, you can choose to use your Charisma for its attack and damage rolls instead of your Strength or Dexterity.
  • The weapon has Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores and one trained skill, given in its description.

Weapons of Legend have an Attunement Bonus used for their properties. This bonus doesn't increase attack or damage rolls. The bonus is +1 at 1st level, and increases by 1 when you reach 2nd, 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, and 20th level in this class.

Each weapon has additional properties detailed at the end of this subclass description. The weapon requires attunement to use its properties, and only you can attune to it.

If you have the Pact of The Blade feature, you can use it to summon and dismiss your weapon without binding to it, and you can communicate with your weapon while it is dismissed.

Hex Warrior

At 1st level, you acquire the training necessary to effectively arm yourself for battle. You gain proficiency with shields and martial weapons.

Consume Enchantment

Starting at 6th level, your weapon can tear the enchantment off of a magic weapon to take its power. Over the course of a long rest, you can perform a ritual in which your sentient weapon will consume a magic weapon in your possession that has a bonus to attack and damage rolls. Doing so destroys the magic weapon. Your sentient weapon gains the highest bonus to attack and damage rolls of the weapons it has consumed.
