Artificer Specialization: Tinkerer

Tinkerers like to play with artifice. Quickly creating various tools for the job.

Tinkerers have a fantastical broad knowledge of magic items and how to produce them. With this knowledge, they prove more versatile than their colleagues who specialized down different paths, such as alchemy or firearms.

Tool Proficiency

When you adopt this specialization at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with smith's tools. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan's tools of your choice.

Tinkerer Spells

Starting at 3rd level, you always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Tinkerer Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don't count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Diverse Skill Set

Also starting at 3rd level, you can learn two additional infusions. These infusions do not count against your number of infusions known, but they must come from the Replicate Magic Item infusion. You can replace these infusions when you level up, but only with Replicate Magic Item infusions.

Additionally, the maximum number of items you can infuse at once increases by 1.

Mass Production

Beginning at 5th level, whenever you finish a long rest, you can replace one the item chosen from the Replicate Magic Item infusion with another The new infusion must have the same level requirement as the item you replace.

Multifunctional Infusions

At 9th level, you learn how to use your maximize the use of your artificer infusions. When you infuse an item, you can add up to a total of two infusions to it instead of one.

The second infusion still counts against your total number of infusions.

Rapid Prototyping

By 15th level, you've developed a technique for infusing items incredibly quickly.

As a bonus action, you can infuse one item that you are holding or wearing with an infusion of your choice. This can be any infusion apart from the Replicate Magic Item, or Homunculus Servant infusions. Even infusions that you do not know.

This infusion lasts for up to one minute, after which the infusion fades.

This temporary infusion does not count against your total infusions, nor can it add a third infusion to an item.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of 1), after which you cannot use it until you finish a long rest.

Make Whole

2nd-level transmutation (ritual)


  • Casting Time: 1 action
  • Range: 30 feet
  • Components: V, S, M (50 GP worth of powered gold, which the spell consumes)
  • Duration: Instantaneous
  • Classes: Artificer, Cleric, Witch Knight, Wizard

This spell repairs an object within range in its entirety, such as a broken mirror, or a shattered statue. As long as the object is no larger than 10 feet in any dimension, you mend it, leaving no trace of the former damage.

This spell can physically repair a magic item or construct, but the spell can't restore magic to such an object. When you cast this spell on a construct with 1 or more hit points, it regains a number of hit points equal to 2d10 + your spellcasting ability modifier.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, this spell can repair an object that is 5 feet larger in any dimension, or the healing increases by 1d10 for each slot level above 2nd.
