Barbarian: Path of the Mountain

The mountain stands as a strong and powerful force that endures for eras. Few natural forces rival the mountain, a feat that barbarians who follow this path try to emulate. They wield heavy and powerful weapons, striking with enormous power while holding themselves firm with strong resolve. Like the mountain, these barbarians are sturdy and resilient in the face of adversity.

Barbarians that follow this path typically spend a lot of time at altitude, knowing the best methods to survive in some of the worlds harshest environments. This combined with their lethality in combat and their sheer endurance has helped to cement their place as lethal forces on the battlefield. Mountain Barbarians range from all types of creatures, but chief among them is the Goliaths. A Goliath's natural disposition to the mountainous terrain has made them tend towards the Path of the Mountain more so than other races.

Path of the Mountain Features
Barbarian Level Feature
3rd Spirit of the Mountain
6th Tremor Sight
10th Earth Shaper
14th Titan's Endurance

Spirit of the Mountain

When you choose this path at 3rd level, you become as indomitable as a mountain on the battlefield. While you are raging, you gain the following three benefits:

  • You have advantage on Constitution saving throws.
  • Bludgeoning, slashing and piercing damage you take from non-magical weapons is reduced by a number equal to your Rage Damage bonus.
  • Whenever you would be pushed, shoved, or otherwise moved against your will, you can use your reaction to instead move no distance.

Tremor Sight

At 6th level, you have tremorsense with a range of 10 feet. Within that range, you can pinpoint the origin of vibrations,

provided that the monster and the source of the vibrations are in contact with the same ground or substance, even if you're blinded or in darkness. This sense can't be used to detect flying or incorporeal creatures, but it can be used to detect invisible creatures unless they successfully hide from you. This range increases to 20 feet at 14th level.

In addition, you ignore difficult terrain made from stone, mud, or another earthy material.

Earth Shaper

Beginning at 10th level, you can cast the stone shape spell, without using a spell slot or material components. Constitution is your spellcasting ability for this spell.

After you cast this spell in this way, you can’t use this feature again until you finish a short or long rest.

Titan's Endurance

Finally, at 14th level, you are an unyielding force on the battlefield. When you enter your rage, your current hit points and your hit point maximum increases by an amount equal to twice your Barbarian level. This increase lasts until the rage ends; your hit point maximum then returns to normal, but your current hit points remain the same, unless they must decrease to abide by your hit point maximum.
