Goliath

Racial Traits

Your goliath character has the following traits.

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2.

Age. Goliaths mature at the same rate as humans; but they're considered young until they reach the age of 50. Goliaths live up to about two centuries.

Size. Your size is Medium. To set your height and weight randomly, start with rolling a size modifier:


  • Size modifier = 2d10
  • Height = 6 feet + 2 inches + your size modifier in inches
  • Weight in pounds = 200 + (2d6 x your size modifier)

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Natural Athlete. You have proficiency in the Athletics skill.

Powerful Build. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Giant.

Subraces. Choose one of these subraces.

Molten Goliath

Goliaths whose heritage comes from ancient flame titans, often called Molten Goliaths, Volcanic Goliaths, or Ilden.

Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 1.

Obsidian Endurance. You can temporarily harden yourself against a sturdy blow. When you take damage that isn't psychic damage, you can use your reaction to roll a d10. Add your Constitution modifier to the number rolled, and reduce the damage by that total. If the damage is considered bludgeoning or fire damage, you also gain resistance against it until the end of your next turn. After you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Fire Resistance. You have resistance to fire damage.

Mountain Goliath (Regular)

The goliaths found in Volo's Guide. Called Mountain Goliaths, Stone Goliaths, or Steinnen.

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1.

Stone's Endurance. You can focus yourself to occasionally shrug off injury. When you take damage, you can use your reaction to roll a d12. Add your Constitution modifier to the number rolled, and reduce the damage by that total. After you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Mountain Born. You have resistance to cold damage. You're also acclimated to high altitude, including elevations above 20,000 feet.

Sky Goliath

Goliaths whose heritage comes from cloud giants, fog giants, gaseous giants who have an affinity for wind-related primordial magic. Often called Sky Goliaths, Wind Goliaths, or Skurnen.

Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 1.

Thunder Guard. You can channel the primordial wind spirits to manifest a powerful defense to shield against an attack. When you take damage that isn't psychic damage, you can use your reaction to roll a d12. Add your Charisma modifier to the number rolled, and reduce the damage by that total. If the damage is considered acid, fire, or poison, you gain resistance against it until the end of your next turn. After you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

In addition, as part of the same reaction, you can travel up to half your movement in flying speed without provoking opportunity attacks.

Skyborn. You have resistance to thunder damage. You're also acclimated to an incredibly high altitude, including elevations above 20,000 feet.

Storm Goliath

Goliaths whose heritage comes from storm giants and ancient storm titans, often called Storm Goliaths, Ocean Goliaths, or Stathic.

Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 1.

Storm Surge. You can channel primordial electrical energies within you to resist injury and let loose destructive energy. When you take damage that isn't psychic or poison, you can use your reaction to roll a d12. Add your Constitution modifier to the number rolled, and reduce the damage by that total.

In addition, as part of the same reaction you can launch a spark of lightning to a creature within 60 feet of you, which must make a Dexterity saving throw or take lightning damage equal to the total of the number you rolled to reduce damage. The DC for the save equals your 8 + Your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus.

After you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Lightning Resistance. You have resistance to lightning damage.

Inhabitant of the Depths. You can breathe air and water, and have a swim speed equal to your walking speed. You ignore any of the drawbacks caused by a deep, underwater environment.
