# Oozekin ## Preface I had caught wind of a pattern of disappearances and sightings of a strange type of ooze. What I discovered was like nothing I would have thought to find. Sapient oozes. Seems like an oxymoron. ### Origin Oblexes were the result of Illithid experimentation with other oozes, and Oozekins are the furthering of those experiments, as there are traces of many different types of Oozes in each one, a sort of perfected melting pot of each kind. These experiments took more than just Oozes however, experimenting with splicing other creatures into the ooze, including their own. Corrupting one of their tadpoles with this ooze created a more aware ooze that sought to claim a host, and claim it did, but not into the hivemind of the Elder Brain, so this line was abandoned, the so called Oozepoles let loose to roam, eventually claiming humanoids as their hosts, killing them quickly and becoming Oozekin. ### Psionic Aptitude The Oozekin show a remarkable aptitude for psionics, a population of them developing them naturally as they age. ### Oozekin Settlements Oozekin form small, nomadic communities, typically in extreme environments where the would be less likely to cross paths with other creatures. They all perform general tasks for the good of their group, and corral any oozepoles to keep them from claiming an unsuspecting victim. ### Ooze Appearance Oozekin have a humanoid shape, despite being amorphous. They typically dress heavily, as to cover themselves completely, as to have a way to hide themselves should their ability to mimic the form of their host fail them, or during the period of time before they have mastered it. When not taking the form of their host, they will often wear masks, especially in climates where hoods and other coverings are inappropriate for the weather. ### Age and Reproduction Oozekin do not physically age, they instead go through a sort of metamorphosis when an Oozepole claims a host, becoming physically an adult, but are not considered mature until they learn to master their ability to impersonate their host's physical form. As such, an Oozekin will not die of old age, but can be killed. When an Oozekin dies, it splits into 2d4-1 Oozepoles, which are unconscious for 1 minute after being spawned from an Oozekin. An Oozepole can sometimes spawn when an Oozekin looses a limb, as the disconnected ooze takes on a life of its own. An Oozepole uses the statistics of an Oblex Spawn. \columnbreak ### Player Oozekin #### General Stats **Ability Score Increase:** CON +2 **Size:** Small or Medium **Speed:** 20 ft. #### Amorphous You can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch without squeezing. #### Blindsight You lack eyes, but can can sense things with other perceptions, granting you Blindsight out to 60 feet. You are blind beyond this radius. #### Oozeborn You are an Ooze and a Humanoid. Additionally, you don't need to breathe. #### Impersonation As an action, you change your appearance. You transform into a specific humanoid, the appearance of which you decide when you choose this race. Your clothing and equipment aren't changed by this trait. You stay in this form until you use an action to revert to your true form, until you are incapacitated, or until you die. #### Languages You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice. #### Subrace The Oozekin have a specific blend of other oozes that categorize them into subraces: Thickened, Gelatinous, Mortar, Soulful, Adhesive, and Emblooded. ### Thickened **Ability Score Increase:** STR +1 #### Corrosive Form Your form is corrosive, and can dissolve a number of materials. As a reaction when a creature hits you with a melee attack, you can deal Acid damage equal to your Constitution modifier to the triggering creature. Additionally, you can use an action to dissolve 1 inch of wood or metal you are in contact with. ### Gelatinous **Ability Score Increase:** DEX +1 #### Transparent Even when you are in plain sight, it takes a successful Wisdom (Perception) check with a DC equal to 10 + your Dexterity (Stealth) modifier to spot you unless you have moved or attacked. A creature automatically succeeds this check while your Impersonation trait is in effect. \pagebreakNum ### Mortar **Ability Score Increase:** INT +1 #### Rudimentary Psionics You know the *Blade Ward* cantrip. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the *Shield* spell with this trait. Starting at 5th level, you can also cast the *Blur* spell with it. Once you cast *Shield* or *Blur* spell with this trait, you can't cast that spell with it again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast either of those spells using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this subrace). None of these spells require spell components when you cast them with this trait. ### Soulful **Ability Score Increase:** CHA +1 #### Improved Imitation When you use your *Impersonation* trait you can change your appearance and your voice. You determine the specifics of the changes, including your coloration, hair length, and sex. You can also adjust your height between Medium and Small. You can make yourself appear as a member of another race, though none of your game statistics change. You can't duplicate the appearance of an individual you've never seen. Additionally, your transformation no longer ends when you are incapacitated. ### Adhesive **Ability Score Increase:** WIS +1 #### Sticky Ooze You gain a climbing speed equal to your walking speed, and you can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check. ### Emblooded **Ability Score Increase:** Con +1 #### Slime Breath When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with a burst of your ooze a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failed save, the creature takes 1d6 acid damage and is pulled up to 15 feet straight toward you. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and isn't pulled. This damage increases by 1d6 when you reach 5th level (2d6), 11th level (3d6), and 17th level (4d6). You can use your Slime Breath a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. # Oozekin Feats #### Viscous Resistance *Prerequisites: Oozekin* ### Your body becomes better at absorbing blows, granting the following benefits: * You gain resistance to Acid, Cold, and Lightning Damage. #### Waking Rest *Prerequisites: Oozekin* ### You acquire the sleepless nature of the generic ooze, granting the following benefits: * Your Constitution score increases by 1, to a maximum of 20. * You don't need to be unconscious to gain the benefits of a long rest.
