Way of the Enduring Mountain

Stand Firm in Strength

Monks of the Way of the Enduring Mountain have learned to be patient, to channel the strength of the earth, and to let others come to them.

Subclass Features

Honed by Sky

You have trained for long periods at great elevation among snow-covered peaks. Beginning when you join this Way at 3rd level, you have resistance to cold damage, and do not suffer the effects of high altitude environments. You can also speak, read, and write Auran.

Patient as the Stone

By 3rd level, you have practiced attuning to the soul of the earth and the mountains that rise above it, and you are able to slow your body and to weather damage of all kinds. You endure as the mountains, and are ready for those who come to you. As an action, you are able to enter a meditative trance that creates an aura of patience and strength around you. This lasts until your concentration ends (as if concentrating on a spell) to a maximum of one minute. While in this trance, you have the following attributes:

  • Immobile: Your speed is reduced to zero, and cannot be increased by any means while in this state.
  • Arctic Winds: Your unarmed strikes have a range of 15 feet, and creatures provoke attacks of opportunity when entering this range.
  • Avalanche: Your reactions per turn are unlimited.
  • In the Shadow of the Peaks: You and any creatures you choose within 15 feet of you have half cover (+2 AC)
  • Magic Resistance: You have advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest or you expend 4 ki points to use it again.

Hardened by Frost

By 6th level, your body has begun to take on physical aspects of the mountain. You decide the appearance of these changes, whether a stone-like appearance to the skin, a light chill to the air around you, eyes as white as snowcaps, or another visible change of your choosing. You have advantage on Athletics and Acrobatics checks, and you count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.

Additionally, you can focus yourself to occasionally shrug off injury. When you take damage, you can use your reaction to roll 2d6. Add your Constitution modifier to the number rolled and reduce the damage by that total. You can use this reaction a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus before a long rest.

Eternal as the Earth

At 11th level, your connection to the soul of stone, both high as the mountain peaks and low as the foundation of the world, grows ever stronger. You gain a second use of the trance action from Patient as the Stone per long rest, and gain additional benefits while in that state:

  • Blizzard Strike: You can choose to change the damage type of your unarmed strikes to cold, thunder, or force.
  • Hands Like Hailstones: Once on each of your turns when you hit with an unarmed strike, you can deal additional damage of the same type equal to one roll of your martial arts die.
  • Spell Turning: If you succeed on a saving throw against a spell affected by your magic resistance and the spell is 7th level or lower, the spell has no effect on you and you can expend 3 ki points to have the spell instead target the caster, using the slot level, spell save DC, attack bonus, and spellcasting ability of the caster.
  • Sheer Mind: You have advantage on constitution saving throws to maintain concentration on your trance feature.

Fury of the Elements

At 17th level, you are one with the wind and sky and stone, and can unleash their power with great force. You can expend 6 ki points to cast Investiture of Ice, Investiture of Stone, or Investiture of Wind without providing verbal, somatic, or material components or needing to maintain concentration. Wisdom is your spellcasting modifier for these spells for the purposes of spell attacks or save DC.
