The Masquerade

Your patron is insidious, devious and most importantly, unknown (maybe even to you.) They embody the very essence of the masquerade. They could be anywhere, at anytime. They could be right beside you and you wouldn't even know, wearing the mask of another face in the crowd.

It is this power your patron offers to you. To become one among the crowd and lay the seeds of paranoia into your unwitting victims. They offer that you become the terrifying image in the corner of one's eye which disappears as soon as they look to find you.

You are no one. You are everywhere. You are the masquerade.

Masquerade Expanded Spells

The Masquerade lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

Spell Level Spell
1st color spray, dissonant whispers
2nd phantasmal force, tasha's mind whipTCE
3rd fast friendsAI, motivational speechAI
4th compulsion, phantasmal killer
5th geas, seeming

A Masque with Every Face

At 1st level, your patron grants you a special mask which you can place over your face as a bonus action. While this mask is over your face, you may use your action to change your appearance and your voice. You determine the specifics of the changes, including your coloration, hair length, and sex. You can also adjust your height and weight, but not so much that your size changes. You can make yourself appear as a member of another race, though none of your game statistics change. You can't duplicate the appearance of a specific creature you've never seen, however you may transform into creatures from your imagination. You must adopt a form that has the same basic arrangement of limbs that you have. Your clothing and equipment may change their appearance as you see fit or are absorbed into your new form if you choose. You stay in the new form until you use an action to revert to your true form or until you die.

A Frightful Whisper

At 1st level, you learn the vicious mockery cantrip. When you force a creature to make a Wisdom saving throw against one of your spells or warlock class features (including this subclass), you may choose to deal psychic damage to the creature equal to your proficiency bonus.

A Face in the Crowd

Starting at 6th level, while wearing your mask, you can Hide so long as there is at least one creature within 5 feet of you that is not hostile towards you.

You may Hide in this way as a bonus action. When you hide in this way using a bonus action, you are invisible until the start of your next turn.

You can use this bonus action a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Le Masque d'Horreur

At 10th level, you have resistance to psychic damage.

In addition, once before the start of your next turn whenever you succeed on an Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma saving throw, you may deal psychic damage to the creature that forced you to make the saving throw. This psychic damage equals your Charisma modifier.

Lost in the Masquerade

At 14th level, while wearing your mask, you can hurl a creature into the dismal paranoia of the masquerade. As an action, choose a creature that you can see within 60 feet of you. It must make a Intelligence saving throw against your warlock spell save DC. On a success, the creature takes 5d10 psychic damage as it flails its way out of the masquerade. On a failure, the creature takes 5d10 psychic damage and is frightened of you for 1 minute or until your concentration is broken (as if concentrating on a spell.) While frightened in this way, the creature perceives all creatures around it as masked figures hostile to it. Whenever the affected creature chooses another creature as a target, it must choose the target at random from among the creatures it can see within range of the attack, spell, or other ability it's using. If an enemy provokes an opportunity attack from the affected creature, the creature must make that attack if it is able to.

Each time the target takes damage, it can repeat the saving throw, ending the effect on itself on a success.

You must finish a short or long rest before you can use this feature again.
