Improved Warlock

Why?

Warlocks are a very unique class. Mechanically, they rely on having two short rests per day in order to compete with the other spellcasters. However, not a lot of groups play with two short rests between every long rest. For those groups, these are some homebrew rules that make the warlock just as effective without any short rest.

Note about Pact Magic Replenishing

If you use any of these options, Pact Magic spell slots do not replenish on a short rest. If you just add one of these options to the official Warlock, you will unbalance the class. What I'm trying to do with these options is move around the Warlock's power, not increase it.

Option #1: Improved Invocations

All invocations that say 'you may cast this spell once using a warlock spell slot' now say 'you may cast this spell once without expending a warlock spell slot.' In addition, the following invocation options are available to you:

Lesser Whispers of the Grave

You can cast speak with dead once without expending a warlock spell slot. You can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Curse of Binding

You can cast compelled duel once without expending a warlock spell slot. You can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Walking Nightmare

You can cast cause fear once without expending a warlock spell slot. You can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Fate's Blast

You can cast magic missile once without expending a warlock spell slot. You can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Call from the Grave

Prerequisite: 5th level Warlock

You can cast animate dead once without expending a warlock spell slot. You can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Gift of the Unseen Ones

Prerequisite: 5th level Warlock

You can cast invisibility once without expending a warlock spell slot. You can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Rift Walker

Prerequisite: 5th level Warlock

You can cast misty step once without expending a warlock spell slot. You can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Aberrant Silk

Prerequisite: 5th level Warlock

You can cast web once without expending a warlock spell slot. You can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Trickster's Escape

Prerequisite: 7th level Warlock

You can cast freedom of movement once without expending a warlock spell slot. You can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Lithic Resistance

Prerequisite: 7th level Warlock

You can cast stoneskin once without expending a warlock spell slot. You can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Defy Death

Prerequisite: 9th level Warlock

You can cast revivify once without expending a warlock spell slot. You can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Cloud of Locusts

Prerequisite: 9th level Warlock

You can cast insect plague once without expending a warlock spell slot. You can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Option #2: More Spell Slots

The Pact Magic feature instead grants you this table of spell slots:

Option #3: Memorized Spells

Beginning at 2nd level, when you learn a new spell according to the Spells Known column of the Warlock table, you choose one spell that you know. You lose the ability to cast this spell using spell slots gained from your Pact Magic feature, as well as other Spellcasting features. You gain the ability to cast this spell once at its lowest level. You regain all spells cast from this feature at the end of a long rest.
