Drow priest with the Dragon Queen
Warlock: The Ancestral Dragon
Dragons are a key force in the mythos of any world, particularly Sanctum, the plane they called home during the Age of the Primordials. Few lived through the Great Collapse, but those that did are of incredible power. Some of these beings have awakened to claim their place in the world once again. As a sign of their power, they have begun to recruit and corrupt the mortals that walk the earth into serving them.
From promises of riches to a desire for strength, their followers are becoming increasingly common in Aetheria. Dragons come in many forms and types, and their devotees are equally diverse in race, background, and goals. Being under the service of a dragon brings one into their varied mindset, with some seeking to bring good into the world and others seeking to bring ruin.
The Ancestral Dragon Features

Ancestral Dragon Patrons
In the world of Aetheria, dragons are on the brink of extinction. Only a handful still walk the planes, either polymorphed or in hibernation somewhere. Some entities such as the Prismatic Lord will create warlocks of the Ancestral Dragon, granting them similar elemental powers. Adjusting the flavour allows other similar patrons to be used.

Heart of the Dragon
Beginning at 1st level, the colour associated with your dragon patron determines aspects of your features as shown below. In addition, you can speak, read, and write Draconic.
Dragon Patron

|---|---|---|---|
| Black | Acid | 10' by 60' line | DEX |

| White | Cold | 30' Cone | CON |
Prismatic Infusion
Also at 1st level, your dragon allows you to alter your attacks to their image. When you cast a spell that only deals any of the following damage types: Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, or Poison, you can change the damage type of the spell to the one associated with your patron.
The first time you deal damage of the type associated with your patron on each of your turns, you can add your Charisma modifier to one damage roll of the attack.
If you later gain the Pact of the Blade feature, you can change the damage type of attacks you make with your pact weapon to the type associated with your patron.
Draconic Scales
When you reach 6th level, your skin hardens like dragon scales. You gain the following two benefits:
- While you aren't wearing armor, your AC equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Charisma modifier.
- You gain resistance to the damage type associated with your patron.
Elemental Ward
Beginning at 10th level, as a reaction when you are damaged by a creature within 30 feet of you that you can see, you can lash out with elemental energy. Make a spell attack roll against the creature. On a hit, the target is struck with a bolt of magic from your patron, taking 2d8 + your Charisma modifier damage of the type associated with your patron.
Breath of the Apocalypse
Finally, at 14th level, you have been blessed with the trademark of a dragon: their devastating breath. As an action, you can breathe in and exhale elemental magic in an area determined by your patron. All creatures in this area must make a saving throw against your warlock spell save DC, the type of which is shown in the Dragon Patron table. On a failure, a creature takes 5d10 damage of the type associated with your patron and half as much on a success.
Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
Eldritch Invocations
At 2nd level, a warlock gains the Eldritch Invocations feature. Here are new options for that feature.
If an eldritch invocation has a prerequisite, you must meet it to learn the invocation. You can learn the invocation at the same time that you meet its prerequisite. A level prerequisite refers to your level in this class.
Eldritch Armoury
Prerequisite: 9th level
You can attune to up to four magic items at once.
Hoarder's Eye
You can cast identify as a ritual, without expending a spell slot or material components.
Truth Serum
Prerequisite: 5th level
You can cast zone of truth once using a warlock spell slot. You cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.
Expanded Spells
The Ancestral Dragon uses one new spell in its Expanded Spell List which is presented below. This spell was originally described in Complete Guide to Sanctum - Spells #5.

5th-level evocation
- Casting Time: 1 action

My Queen, I regret to inform you that Captain Cassius was found dead on the 3rd day of High Harvest. She and her men were slain by cultists, specifically dragon cultists. My men have since retaliated in kind. Only one was left alive, a preacher who calls himself 'Wyrmtooth'.
I have taken the initiative to interrogate this fiend and I have come across disturbing news. A dragon has been awakened below the Crimson Mountain. It seems to be a recent development, perhaps only in the last few tenday. I believe this threat is credible and worthy of my time.
My men are moving towards the mountain as this message flies. We will be there in three days. I will meet with Sergeant Tyrus when I am there and coordinate a strike on this beast before it poses a threat to the Great City.
