Bounty Rewards

Overview

Bounty hunting is a living and valuable profession. Villages, Towns, and Cities all put out bounties on those who have evaded justice. Rewards have been put on these creatures to encourage adventurers like yourself to hunt them down and bring them in. Most are expected to be brought in alive so they can be dealt with by those who set the price, others are wanted dead or alive.

This has been made with the assumption that the economy of the area you are in has a healthy economy that is able to support these rewards. If your world has a struggling economy, consider multiplying the result you get by a fraction to reduce the total reward. You could also replace rewards that you feel are too big with other things like magical items, land and buildings, or favors from powerful people.

Crime Severity

You can roll on the table below to decide the severity of a criminal's deeds, or you can skip this and go directly to the rewards tables. If you are generating random bounties, I also recommend you use a resource for randomly generating some buzz words around what the criminal did. I may include something for that in another version of this.

d20 Crime Severity Requirement
1-10 Petty Alive
11-15 Minor Alive
16-19 Major Alive
19-20 Heinous Dead or Alive

Bounty Rewards

The table below are for generating bounty rewards based on the CR of the criminal and the severity of their crimes. Provided are rolls to generate the reward per head. I also included numbers for the minimum, middle, and maximum of those roll ranges so you can pick a reward quickly without rolling if you would rather do that. Keep in mind that these rewards may tend to be low as the only reward for fighting a difficult monster. Consider adding a treasure hoard to the reward for players especially in the case of higher CR criminals.

If a bounty with an "Alive" requirement is brought in dead, or sure to die, a penalty is applied to the bounty according to the bounty rewards table. The DM can decide if the penalty applies per head, or if it applies as a whole. The DM can also decide if negative values are allowed due to penalties. If the players do not have the money to pay a resulting fine, they are arrested and thrown in jail for a number of days decided by the DM.

Inspiration and Suggested Resources

This was inspired while playing a solo game using "The Solo Adventurers Toolbox". I highly recommend a resource like this or the "Mythic GM Emulator" to generate information surrounding these bounties.

Homebrewing

People love to flex their creative muscles while composing new homebrew content. More often than not, the inspiration for you homebrew comes from another source. Sometimes significantly. Other times just as a spark.

What is important for the community is that you share your sources of inspiration. This back cover can serve as an easy to find, easy to read place for you to do just that.

So go ahead, remove this chunk of copy and tell everyone who inspired you.
