Rogue Archetype: Murderer

Murderers are common occurrence in some of the most underground developed cities. They come in many forms, people with broken minds, psychopaths, vengeful ones or professional ones who are working for money. What they all have in common is that they approach one single target in melee combat without fear, ready do take them on unwary, as well as in a fair fight, inspiring fear to their victim. The professional ones fight smartly and instead of rushing, they approach slowly, using poisons and smokescreens to gain advantage of the fight.

Bonus proficiencies

When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with the Alchemist's supplies and the poisoner's kit.

Murderer practice:

At 3th Level you understand basic practice every murderer should have and you can peerlessly sense your target, you gain following benefits:

  • While you are wearing no armor and not wielding a shield, your AC equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Constitution modifier.
  • As bonus action on your turn, you can mark one creature that you see, within 120 feet as target, you know exact location of marked creature, you can use sneak attack feature on it without meeting sneak attack feature requirement if you attack it with melee finesse weapon. You also don't get disadvantage on melee attack rolls when attacking marked creature you don't see. This effect ends if target more than 120 feet farther away from you, if it enters other plane (such as Ethereal plane), or if you mark other creature.

Murderer screen

At 9th level you can cast the Darkness spell as a 2nd-level spell once with this feature without providing material components, dexterity is your spell casting ability modifier for it.

When you cast this spell, you can see normally through this magical darkness and you can make this magical darkness take color and shape to your desire (for example: you can make it look like red fog, magical astral globe, swarm of insects, etc... ), this desired visual effect can't change spells behavior. You regain use of this ability when you finish short or long rest.

Vicious movement

At 13th level, you become real professional murderer, you inspire fear to your victims, you gain following benefits:

  • You gain Proficiency on all saving throws if you don't have them already against effects produced by your murderer practice feature marked creature, and you can add your proficiency modifier to you AC against attacks made by targeted creature.
  • you add 4d6 bonus damage to your melee sneak attack feature against Murderer practice feature marked target.

Hidden blade

At 17th level, mastered art of murder, your victim is at your mercy when you strike from shadows. When you attack with melee weapon finesse attack to an murderer practice feature marked creature who can't see you or if it is not aware of your presence, if your attack hit, you deal your critical attack damage instead of your normal damage, this feature can be triggered only once per your turn.

Disclaimer for new players:

Hidden blade attack is not multiplied by natural 20 critical hit dice (so you DO NOT roll quadruple damage dice on natural 20 hit roll), and you roll all relevant dices as critical hit, including your sneak attack damage dice as you would do with any other roll that would hit target while having this feature. so its basically same if you rolled 20 or any other roll that would hit.
