Polymath Magic
Sage of All Trades
All wizards are, by definition, scholars. But not all wizards need specialize. Though many wizards select a specific school or unique application of their arcane studies to focus on, there are those who seek a broader understanding of the mechanics of all magic. These are the Polymaths, scholars who have read innumerable books and scrolls on wide, ranging topics, seeking not specialization or focus, but expansion. All magic is their domain.
Subclass Features
Knowledgeable
Beginning when you choose this arcane tradition at 2nd level, you are so well-read on a number of topics that you nearly always have something to add to an academic discussion. You gain one exotic language, and when you make an ability check that uses an intelligence skill (Arcana, History, Investigation, Nature, or Religion), you can roll a d4 and add the number rolled to the check.
Compartmentalization
By 2nd level, you have learned to divide your mind in such a way that you are able to provide multiple intensive tasks equal focus at the expense of smaller ones. You can now concentrate on two spells simultaneously. While doing so, you cannot cast any additional spells (including cantrips), and can only use your action to dash, disengage, hide, or use a feature of one of the spells you are concentrating on. When concentrating on two spells in this way, neither spell can be of a level greater than your proficiency bonus, and you have disadvantage on constitution saving throws to maintain concentration on these spells.
If you attempt to cast another spell or lose concentration, all spells using your concentration end immediately. If you dismiss one of the spells using your concentration (no action required), normal concentration rules apply.
Interdisciplinary Adept
By 6th level, your diverse research has yielded magical benefits outside of typical wizard studies. You gain advantage on all Intelligence (Arcana) rolls, and can choose one cantrip that does not appear on the wizard spell list. You can choose a second cantrip that does not appear on the wizard spell list when you reach 10th level in this class. Regardless of the spell list they come from, Intelligence is your spellcasting modifier for these cantrips. Choices are available in the below table.
Interdisciplinary Adept Cantrips
| spell list | cantrip choices |
|---|---|
| Artificer | guidance, magic stone, resistance, spare the dying, thorn whip |
| Bard | vicious mockery |
| Cleric | guidance, resistance, sacred flame, thaumaturgy, word of radiance |
| Druid | druidcraft, guidance, magic stone, primal savagery, produce flame, resistance, shillelagh, spare the dying, thorn whip |
| Warlock | eldritch blast, magic stone |
Multitasking
When you reach 10th level in this class, your ability to split your attentions and focus on multiple tasks at once improves. You no longer have disadvantage on Constitution saving throws made to maintain concentration on multiple spells, and when you use your action to cast a cantrip, you can now cast a second cantrip as a part of the same action.
Arcane Ambush
When you reach 14th level, you have become adept at planning ahead, reacting to danger, and assaulting your foes with spells. You can take two turns during the first round of any combat. You take your first turn at your normal initiative and your second turn at your initiative minus 10 (minimum of 1). You can’t use this feature when you are surprised.
