Monastic Tradition: Palm of Nature

Monastic Traditions

At 3rd level, a monk gains the Monastic Traditions feature. When selecting your Monastic Traditions, you can add the following traditions to your list of options.

Palm of Nature

Monks of the Palm of Nature think of nature itself as their sanctuary. Most monks of the Palm of Nature learned the capacity to be one with nature in solitude. Some people confuse druids and these monks due to their affinity with the flora and fauna. But the difference is that druids are chosen by deities or forces of the elements, whereas these monks are chosen by one thing; themselves. A monk of nature is often respectful and patient when an issue about the wilderness is brought up, but when the conversation veers towards that of the civilized world, they can become agitated, thinking little of the consequences of their behaviour.

Communion With Nature

When you choose this tradition at the 3rd level, you have bonded with the wild. You learn the cantrip druidcraft and you can use your ki to channel one of the following three forms:

Grizzly Claw. As a bonus action, you can spend 2 ki points to transform your hands into bear claws. Your unarmed strikes gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls, and your unarmed strike damage type changes to slashing. The duration of this form is a number of rounds equal to your monk level.

Snake’s Composure. As a bonus action, you can spend 2 ki points to cleanse your mind of any doubt and fear. You get advantage on any saving throws against spells and features that attempt to charm, frighten, or stun you. Also, you gain +2 on Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws. The duration of this form is a number of minutes equal to half your monk level rounded down.

Adaptation of the Primate. As a bonus action, you can speed 2 ki points to change your way of thinking, making innovation and learning rapidly. You can gain proficiency on 2 Wisdom, Intelligence or Dexterity skills of your choice. You can’t gain proficiency with a skill that you're already proficient with. The duration of this form is a number of minutes equal to your monk level.

You can’t be in two forms at the same time, using another one will force the form to disappear immediately.

Nature’s Boon

At 6th level, you begin to feel that the wild isn't something, but someone, and that someone is starting to trust your devotion. You can cast the following spells once per long rest: locate animals or plants, speak with animals, and speak with plants. You can also use 2 ki points to cast any of these spells, and you learn the cantrips mending and thorn whip.

One With Nature

At 11th level, you can infuse more ki into your wild forms, completely submerging yourself in nature's power. You can now spend 4 and 6 ki points instead of 2 to increase a form’s power and physical effects.

Grizzly Claws. Spending 4 ki points transforms your entire arms into those of a grizzly bear. Your unarmed strikes now gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls. Spending 6 ki points transforms your entire body into the form of a bipedal grizzly bear. Your Strength score becomes 18, unless already 18 or higher, and your unarmed strikes now gain a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls.

Snake’s Composure. Spending 4 ki points causes your pupils to turn vertically and transform your tongue into that of a serpent. You gain advantage on any saving throws against spells and features that attempt to put you under a condition, and your saving throw bonus becomes +4. Spending 6 ki points changes your skin, now made of scales and you have small fangs. You gain immunity to the charmed, frightened, and stunned conditions and your saving throw bonus becomes +6.

Adaptation of the Primate. Spending 4 ki points flattens your nose like that of a monkey and fur appear on your head. you can gain proficiency on 3 skills and you can select Strength and Charisma skills as well. Spending 6 ki points causes you to grow a tail, and more fur. You now are capable of gaining expertise on the skill that you are already proficient with.

Nature’s Oathsworn

At 17th level, You have vowed to protect and represent nature within the civilized world. When you take a long rest, flowers and plants within 30 ft. of you bloom, dehydrated flowers become hydrated, animals come to sleep within your presence, and cursed lands lose their effects for the duration of your long rest. Your previous forms cost 2 ki points less to use (to a minimum of 1) and you can have multiple different forms active at the same time, up to 3. You also gain two additional forms:

Turtle’s Defense. You can expend 5 ki points to give yourself a shell on your back giving you +2 bonus to your AC and a swimming speed equal to your walking speed. You also gain a +2 on Constitution saving throws, and can breathe under water. The duration of this form is a number of minutes equal to your monk level.

Flight of the Eagle. You can expend 5 ki points to transform your arms into wings, granting you a flying speed of 30 ft. While in this form you can’t use your hands to make unarmed strikes, and instead use your feet. Your unarmed strikes gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls, and you gain a +2 to Dexterity saving throws. The duration of this form is a number of minutes equal to half your monk level rounded down.
