Lanae - 5E Homebrew Race

by Nines, V1.1

Counting Sheep

Often found in mountainous areas, Lanae live in social enclaves at high altitudes. That being said, Lanae culture is welcoming to outsiders, and Lanae merchants regularly trek up and down their mountains, trading goods in both directions.

Lanolinic culture emphasizes social bonds and communal duty. As such, many Lanae who become adventurers do so for the good of their enclave - whether that means honing their skills, preparing for a threat, or searching for lost members.

Lanae are also known for having calming effects on those around them, to the point that the mere thought of them is often used to lull children to sleep.

Lanae Features

Ability Score Increase

Lanae are a hardy race, adapted to the harsh weather of their mountain enclaves. Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.

Flexible Ability Score Increase (Optional)

If your table uses Tasha's rules for character creation, you may increase an ability score of your choice by 2 instead of Constitution and another ability score of your choice by 1 instead of Wisdom.

Creature Type

You are a Humanoid.

Size

Lanae range from 4 to 6 feet tall. You are Medium.

Speed

Your walking speed is 30 feet. In addition, you have a climbing speed of 30 feet.

Lanae Magic

All Lanae have an instinctive capability to calm intense emotions in those around them. You learn the calm emotions spell. You can cast calm emotions without expending a spell slot, and you must finish a long rest before you can cast it this way again. You can also cast this spell using any spell slots you have. Your spellcasting ability for this spell is your choice of Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma. In addition, magic cannot put you to sleep.

Communal Resilience

If you fail an ability check or a saving throw, you can draw on your bonds of reciprocity to gain a bonus to the roll equal to the number of allies you can see within 30 feet of you (maximum bonus of +5). You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses you finish a long rest.

Mountain Born

You have resistance to cold damage. You're also acclimated to high altitude, including elevations above 20,000 feet.

Horns

Your horns are natural melee weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal bludgeoning damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
