Warlock Otherworldly Patron: The Grand Magus

Be it an otherworldly being of arcane might, or a mortal wizard making an investment in their servants, the Grand Magus imparts unto its warlocks the deepest secrets of magic itself.

Its servants are skilled spellcasters as well as scholars of arcane lore, and such warlocks are often dispatched to locate secrets or artifacts of power for their patron, or sent to spy on rival arcane institutions.

Expanded Spell List

The Grand Magus lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following are added to the warlock spell list for you.

Spell Level Spells
1st Detect Magic, Magic Missile
2nd Magic Weapon, See Invisibility
3rd Haste, Lightning Bolt
4th Arcane Eye, Polymorph
5th Telekinesis, Teleportation Circle

Bonus Cantrip

When you choose this patron at 1st level, you learn one cantrip of your choice from the wizard spell list. This counts as a warlock cantrip for you, but does not count against the number of warlock cantrips you know.

Arcane Wisp

At 1st level, you learn to create a wisp of errant magic, which may take the shape of a mote of light, a translucent face, or some other manifestation of the arcane. You may create the wisp as an action, and it lasts until it is destroyed, until you start your turn more than 60 feet away from it, or until you create a new one. Once you create a wisp, you may not do so again until you have finished a long rest, unless you expend a spell slot to do so earlier.

A wisp is a Tiny construct with 1 hit point, and its AC is equal to 14 + your proficiency bonus. It has a flying (hover) speed of 40 feet. The wisp acts on your initiative directly after you. If you use your bonus action to command it, the wisp can use its action to shock a creature within 10 feet of it, making a ranged spell attack roll (using your bonus) and dealing 1d6 lightning damage on a hit; this damage increases by 1d6 at 5th, 11th, and 17th levels.

Minor Arcana

At 6th level, you learn two 1st-level spells of your choice from the wizard spell list, which count as warlock spells for you but do not count against the number of warlock spells you know. Additionally, you may cast each of these spells once at 1st level with this trait without expending a spell slot, and you regain the ability to do so again when you complete a long rest. If you later replace these spells as per your Spellcasting feature, you must choose a new 1st-level spell from the wizard spell list.

Weave Intuition

From 6th level, your patron deepens your connection to the Weave of magic. When you learn the school of magic of a particular magical effect, such as by making an Arcana check to decipher runes or by casting the detect magic spell, you also learn the spell level of the effect (if it has one) and how long ago it was placed.

Eldritch Bond

Beginning at 10th level, you gain a +2 bonus to the damage rolls of your warlock cantrips while your Arcane Wisp is within 10 feet of you.

Additionally, if you use your bonus action to command it, the wisp can now use its action to generate an arcane field around a friendly creature within 10 feet of it; this field absorbs magic, granting the creature advantage on saving throws against spells, and resistance to the damage dealt by spells, until the start of your next turn.

Major Arcana

At 14th level, you learn one spell of your choice of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th levels, each chosen from the wizard spell list. These spells count as warlock spells for you but do not count against the number of warlock spells you know. Additionally, you may cast each of these spells once with this trait, without expending a spell slot, at their lowest levels, and you regain the ability to cast them in this way when you finish a long rest. If you later replace these spells as per your Spellcasting feature, you must choose a new spell of equal level from the wizard spell list.
