Masters of the Mountains

Goliaths are a species of humanoid creature who live high in the mountains of the world. They are wanderers and nomads, herding giant goats across valleys and glaciers alike.

Goliaths have a strong culture of warriors and singers, with most of their culture and traditions passed down through songs by wandering stonesingers. These singers are trained by a mentor during their childhood, before setting off on a pilgrimage to visit all nearby tribes to learn their stories.

Descendants of Giants

It is not known if goliaths were once giants, cursed into smaller stature, or part giant, somehow, but their connection to giants is obvious. Goliaths stand between seven and nine feet tall, and certain tribes have a clear connection to a specific giant subspecies.

Goliath Traits

Ability Score

Increase one ability score by 2, and another ability score by 1. These are recommended to be strength and constitution, respectively, but not all goliaths are as strong and tough as others of their species.

Goliaths are between 7 and 9 feet tall and weigh between 280 and 440 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Goliaths have a movement speed of 30 ft., and a climb speed of 20 ft.

Age.

Goliaths have lifespans comparable to humans. They enter adulthood in their late teens and usually live less than a century.

Alignment

Natural Athlete

You have proficiency in the Athletics skill.

Powerful Build

You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or pull.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Giant.

Subspecies

There are several subspecies of goliath. Mountain Goliath are the most common, followed by fire goliaths, frost goliaths, and storm goliaths.

Mountain Goliath

Mountain goliaths are what most people think of when they hear the word goliath. They are fairly human looking, though totally bald, and covered in intricate markings that grow over time. Mountain goliaths do not age as visibly as humans do, instead just gaining more dark skin patterns until they die.

Stone's Endurance

You can focus yourself to occasionally shrug off injury. When you take damage, you can use your reaction to roll a d12. Add your Constitution modifier to the number rolled, and reduce the damage by that total. After you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Mountain Born

You have resistance to cold damage. You're also acclimated to high altitude, including elevations above 20,000 feet.

Fire Goliath

These goliaths have red or black skin, and bright red or orange hair that sometimes can look like flames or embers. Fire goliaths are often expert crafters or smiths, and are sometimes found in towns or settlements, unlike the rest of their wandering kind.

Expert Crafting

You gain proficiency in blacksmith's tools. If you would gain proficiency in blacksmith's tools from another source, you instead gain expertise.

Flame Born

You have resistance to fire damage and can survive in hot temperatures with ease.

Heat of the Forge

Once per short rest, when you hit a target with a melee attack, you can deal extra fire damage equal to your proficiency bonus to the target.

Frost Goliath

Frost goliaths have deep blue to pale blue skin, with white hair and short horns. They live in the highest peaks or on glaciers, impervious to the freezing cold.

Frost Born

You are immune to cold damage and can comfortably breath at any altitude.

Frost Breath

As an action you can expel a breath of freezing air. Chose one target within 15 ft. The target must make a constitution saving throw vs 8 + your con mod + your proficiency. On a failure, they take 1d12 cold damage, and unless they are immune to cold damage, are incapacitated and frozen in place until the end of their next turn. Once you use this ability, you cannot use it again until you complete a long rest.

Storm Goliath

Storm goliaths have purple-grey skin, and grey hair, and often have an eternal breeze ruffling their hair and beards (if they have one).

Storm Born

You have resistance to lightning damage. You're also acclimated to high altitude, including elevations above 20,000 feet.

Lightning Weapons

As an action you can summon a weapon with which you are proficient for one hour. This weapon deals lightning damage instead of whatever damage it normally deals. You can instead use an action to charge a weapon you are holding, changing its damage type to lightning. You can only have one weapon summoned or charged in this way at a time.

Torture

Your

Players

Do your players complain that the game is too easy? Do you just want them to suffer for the sins of humanity or for playing on their phones at the table?

If the answer is yes, then check out Chloe's Compendium of Cruelty, a collection of nearly all my homebrew content all in one place.
