\pagebreakNum # Welcome to Teyvan > *A flock of vultures circle above a lone human in the blazing heat as they wait for them to expire. Far away a tribe of the Khandantat Gurvel cuts down a pack of bandits preying on a town on the border to the Underdark. Deep below the senators of the Republic Durradoth debate the ethics of allowing the Hollows to be used for reproduction.*
Teyvan was once a world as any other, filled with lush forests, glistening oceans, sparkling snowfields, arid deserts, and every environment and terrain. However it is now the 23rd year of the Desert Era (DE), and only deserts are left. Over the course of one day all of the water on the planet of Teyvan disappeared, leaving only the waters currently within living creatures. Now the surviving people of Teyvan have no choice but to pay The Circle for their water.
When the water disappeared the material plane of Teyvan faced extinction, as without water the plants wilted and there were no clouds to keep the sun at bay. Within only a year 90% of Teyvan's population, including animals, died or if lucky fled to another plane. Most of those who survived in Teyvan did so by fleeing to the cold of the Underdark, out of the blazing sun of Noyon Nar, however some made new homes in the now dry ocean trenches. ## A World Without Water If there is only one fact you take from this book, it is that Teyvan is completely dry. When the water disappeared all those years ago, it did not evaporate like many had initially assumed; it was gone for good. It is easy to imagine oceans, rivers, lakes and ponds drying up, but it did not stop there. The snow and ice caps were also vanished off the face of Teyvan. Not only were there no longer any bodies of water, all water from the atmosphere had vanished too. This means that there are no longer clouds, and without clouds there is no longer any precipitation of any form. All aquatic life died within a day of the water disappearing, and the plant life died within a couple weeks. The fates of the terrestrial and airborne creatures of Teyvan were more varied. Though many died within a week due to a lack of water, the beasts already accustomed to living in deserts where water was rare survived for years. However not all of the creatures of Teyvan perished. Some creatures survived by drinking the blood of their prey, others through drinking their own urine. Life in Teyvan is distinguished by the lack of water, and that every day is a fight for survival. Adventures should exemplify this fact. The party should be well aware of how much water they have at all times, and should plan their adventures with it in mind. ## Food and Drink Sources The people of Teyvan however did not perish from the lack of drinking water, as The Circle quickly arrive to solve that issue for those that could pay. Instead those who perished did so because of the lack of food. Though The Circle could provide water to keep the survivors alive, they could not provide enough water to keep all of the crops and livestock alive, and the first few years of the Desert Era (DE) was defined by the large food shortages. If not for the people of the Underdark sharing their knowledge of food sources that don't require water, the surface dwellers would not have survived the first year of the Desert Era.
Welcome to Teyvan
\pagebreakNum # Chapter 1: The People of Teyvan Teyvan is home to many seperate people, races and cultures. Even within a certain race or subrace there are multiple cultures, and always room to add more.
Chapter 1: The People of Teyvan
\pagebreakNum # Chapter 2: Factions and Societies of Teyvan ## Republic Durradoth The Republic Durrath is the oldest nation of Teyvan. The Republic was founded a little over 1,000 years ago, when the peoples of the Underdark decided to put aside their differences and band together to face the dangers below together. To ensure that all would have equal and fair representation, the monarchs all stepped down and crafted a new system of governance where the people would choose their leaders. Each town and state would elect four senators, one each for the Dark Elves, Duergar and Deep Gnomes, and one for the rest of the races. A fifth member was added in the Desert Era, to represent the refugees from the surface. In the rare case where a town, or even state, does not have any members of a major race, minor race, or refugees their respective representative would be given to the most populous group within the town or state.
Unlike most nations, it's borders are not a continuous, singular, mass but are instead multiple smaller isolated states. To facilitate timely travel between the separated states, each town has a two-way teleportation sigil to the capital, which in turns has sigils for every town and city within the Republic. Normally only the Republic's senators and other government officials are permitted usage of the sigils, but it is not unheard of for non-government officials to gain authorization for their use. Furthermore to prevent the sigils from being abused, they cannot be used as destinations for standard teleportation magic.
Due to the vast distances between the separate states of the Republic, many of its citizens never leave their home state. The Republic's armies also do not have the numbers to keep the connecting roads safe, resulting in travelers having to ensure their own safety beyond the Republic's borders. Though all citizens of the Republic go through their choice of martial or arcane self defense training, those that do make the journey between states oft choose to hire armed escorts to ensure their safety. ### Goals The Republic's main goal is not to simply survive, but to thrive. Due to them already being native to the Underdark, and a lack of consistent water sources, the Republic were able to shrug off the worst effects of the water disappearing. ### Relationships ### Figures of Interest #### Speaker Elvana Vrinn ***Lawful Good, Female Dark Elf***
Speaker Elvana Vrinn is the Speaker of the Underdark Senate, and oversees the Senate proceedings. #### High Senator Alanis Shadan ***Lawful Neutral, Male Dark Elf***
High Senator Alanis Shadan is the leader of the Drow representatives in the Underdark Senate. #### High Senator Magnus Hollowrest ***Lawful Good, Male Duergar***
High Senator Magnus Hollowrest is the leader of the Duergar representatives in the Underdark Senate. #### High Senator Iseldi Ironback ***Chaotic Good, Female Deep Gnome***
High Senator Iseldi Ironback is the leader of the Deep Gnome representatives in the Underdark Senate. #### High Senator Compassion ***Neutral Good, Female Tiefling***
High Senator Compassion is the leader of the minor races' representatives in the Underdark Senate. Born with the name Liliana, she took on the name Compassion after repeatedly being praised as compassionate. Ever since she has done her best to live up to her name, and aspired to join the Underdark Senate to help as many people as she could. At the age of twenty she became the youngest person to ever be elected to the senate, even accounting for lifespan differences. Unafraid to twist the laws through loopholes she continued to do as much as she could do to help not only her constituents, but all of the people of the Republic. So it came as no surprise when she emerged victorious in the recent election for the Head Senator of the minor races representatives. However Compassion is not without her enemies, as many of the senators that use their position as means to increase their own personal wealth and power with little concern for their constituents, see her as a potential threat. As such many have tried to demonize her as a cold hearted charlatan, and while many peaople see through the lies an insignificant number have fallen for them. #### High Senator Kamilla fae Arvensen ***Chaotic Neutral, Female Human***
High Senator Kamilla fae Arvensen is the leader of the refugees' representatives in the Underdark Senate. Kamilla's electoral victory to become the refugee High Senator was wrought with controversy, as for the majority of the campaign she was the least popular candidate. It was not until weeks before the election where she began to gain popularity, and her opponents accused her of cheating though these claims were never proven. Furthermore her continued use of the particle 'Fae', signifying one of noble blood, has resulted in many accusing her of being an agent of the Deep Colonies, and have called upon her to either step down or drop the particle from her name. Kamilla has dismissed the claims, and refused to drop the particle in respect of her heritage. However she has continued to vote in favor of laws and decisions that would aid the humans above the other refugees, and there are rumors one of the other refugee representatives may challenge her appointment in the near future. ## Deep Colonies ### Goals ### Relationships ### Figures of Interest #### King Rudolf ari Wulfgar ***Lawful Evil, Male Human***
King Rudolf ari Wulfgar is the current ruler of the Deep Colonies, and is considered by many to be a cold-hearted tyrant that only cares about his own self interests. His reign has been marked by two major events. The first of which was the Deep Colonies vast expansion into the Underdark, making the depths safer for his people by exterminating the dangerous beasts that called the Underdark home. The second event was when he crushed a rebellion led by his son, Crown Prince Faaldrin bal Wulfgar, who he personally executed in a public display. #### Princess Rosalyn Wulfgar ***Chaotic Good, Female Half Elf (Dark)***
Despite being the oldest child of King Rudolf ari Wulfgar, the combination of her being born to the King's dark elven mistress as well as being born a woman, has resulted in Princess Rosalyn having zero claim to the throne. Furthermore, despite her status of royalty because of her elven mother she was not permitted to use a particle in her name to signify her status in the Human hierarchy. ## Serpes Silinius The Serpes Silinius is a relatively young nation in Teyvan, which first appeared in the early years of the Desert Era. When the water disappeared, the landwalking races gained new lands to explore and settle in the depths of the oceans. In what was once the deepest trench of the Artesian Ocean, the Yuan-Ti banded together and formed the Serpes Silinius in the lands now known as the Serpes S'Alandas.
Serstet Slas'Yat, known as the Serpent Queen Slas'Yat in common, rules from the capital city of S'Tosar, located in the deepest trench of the Serpes S'Alandas. Though young she has earned the trust and admiration of her people, although her reign has not been without strife. The former king, Serstet Slas'Dahn and Serstet Slas'Yat's father, was killed in a hunting accident when she was but eight years old. Though none questioned her right to the throne, many of the nobility felt uneasy with a young child helming their nation. There were rumours of a revolution brewing in the shadows to unseat the young queen, but the royal guards and spy network managed to sink the revolution before it could gain any steam.
The patron Divinity of the Serpes Silinius is of course the Great Ouroboros Sorobos. ### Goals ### Relationships ### Figures of Interest #### Serstet Slas'Yat ***Lawful Good, Female Yuan-Ti Pureblood***
Serstet Slays'Yat is the young queen of the Serpes Silinius, barely into her eighteenth year. Crowned at the young age of eight when her father, the previous king Serstet Slas-Dahn, was killed in a hunting accident. Though naive, she has done her best to rule as kind and just queen these past ten years. Her most recent declaration was for every Yuan-Ti Pureblood child born after her father's death to present themselves to her on the tenth anniversary of her coronation in a few months, to see if her father has been reborn as one of them. If she finds her father's reincarnation, she plans to invite them and their new family to live in the royal palace as honorary royalty, and if she were to die before bearing a heir her father's reincarnation would be her heir. #### Soul Seeress Sil'Nas ***Lawful Neutral, Female Yuan-Ti Pureblood*** The role of a soul seer is one of the most important roles within the Temple of Sorobos, as they alone have the skills required to see the unique soul of an individual. Sil'Nas has been the Soul Seer for the Slas royal family for decades now, and has become the family's most trusted advisor. Though she is eager for the day when all of the Yuan-Ti children born since the former king's death will come to the palace to find the king's reincarnation, she secretly worries she will not live to see the day. Already an elderly woman, she can feel her age catching up to her and hasn't been feeling well recently. Since Soul Seeress Sil'Nas has yet to appoint her successor, her biggest fear is dying without one, throwing Serstet Slas'Yat's plans into disarray. However she has kept up the appearance of good health for the young Queen's sake, choosing instead to search for a worthy successor in secret. ## Montari Si Rajat ### Goals ### Relationships ### Figures of Interest ## Khandantat Gurvel ### Goals ### Relationships ### Figures of Interest ## The Circle ### Goals ### Relationships ### Figures of Interest ## The House of Xaela ### Goals ### Relationships ### Figures of Interest ## The Aunyla En’Salaeyn ### Goals ### Relationships ### Figures of Interest #### Faera Alothi ***True Neutral, Female High Elf***
Faera is the leader and founder of the Aunyla En'Salaeyn, and though she is a powerful archmage in her own right, her true power rests in her charisma. She was able to grow the Aunyla En'Salaeyn by just speaking to her fellow high elves, convincing them to join her with nothing more than her words. Though many would assume she would be hostile towards her kin that joined the Aunyla Aurelia, she instead feels pity for them, and hopes to be able to one day convince them to join her. However she feels that as the Aunyla En'Salaeyn grows, she is losing her grip on its control and that it is becoming something new and potentially dangerous that she may no longer agree with. ## The Aunyla Aurelia ### Goals ### Relationships ### Figures of Interest ## The Tri'ah Wendyla ### Goals ### Relationships ### Figures of Interest
Chapter 2 | Factions and Societies of Teyvan
\pagebreakNum # Chapter 3: Gods of Teyvan The pantheon of Teyvan features ten gods, commonly referred to as Divinities, that watch over and guide the people. From the creation of art to a bloody conquest, from the justice of the courts to the act of one's devotion, nearly every aspect in life can be traced back to the gods in some shape or form. Though most people will go their entire lives without seeing or hearing the gods themselves, none argue their existence or divinity. The gods themselves exist on the Material Plane, usually in their beastial form of their symbol, though most of their home's are unknown to all but few of their most devoted followers and champions.
Though not all mortals actively worship and revere the gods, their influence is so far reaching that even the irreligious often end up performing acts of worship unintentionally. It is exceedingly rare for one of the Divinities to grant powers in a pact to warlocks, as those powers are generally granted by angels in service to the Divinities in their stead.
However there are lesser gods, which are not formally recognized by any church or temple. These lesser gods, generally refered to as Idols, tend to have much smaller and more specific spheres of influence than the Divinities themselves. Though rare, it is not unheard of for Idols to grant magic to their followers and champions. This magic is of equal power to that granted by the Divinities themselves, but the recipients of the Idols' gifts often end up embroiled in their Idol's affairs, and forced into their conflicts. The Idols can also fill the roles of both a cleric's god and a warlock's patron.
The concepts of good and evil do not apply to the Ten Divinities, as they are beings with morals far beyond the understanding of simple mortals. Instead they can be defined by their spheres of influence and their tendency towards order and chaos. The Idols however, do not share these restrictions, and can be defined by both their tendencies towards order and chaos, and good and evil. ## The Ten Divinities ### Deivos - God of Devotion **Title:** The Trueheart **Symbol:** Two hands held in chains. **Domain:** Love, Loyalty, Honour, Trust **Cleric Domain(s):** Order **Followers:** Soldiers, Lovers, Anyone devoted to anything **Alignment:** Lawful **Lore:** Devotion and loyalty take many forms; two lovers, a parent and a child, a soldier to their commander, a king to their nation, a lower devil to a devil prince, a worshipper to their god; and Deivos rules over all. However few worship him directly, as one's devotion to any of the gods is considered an act of devotion towards him. He rewards those who are loyal and devoted, and punishes those who are not. Those who falsely pretend to be devoted are punished the harshest. To invoke the anger of Deivos is to ensure that none shall ever be devoted to you again, no matter the kind or however many lives you live.
Though Deivos may appear to be one of the more “good” gods, that could not be farther from the truth. Deivos only sees the act of devotion, not the how or why. After all, what could be a stronger act of devotion than if the wife of a dead man is so devoted to him that she would seek to bring him back no matter the cost? To Deivos such an act of Devotion would be worthy of reward, no matter how terrible the consequences may be. ### Faaldir - God of Battle **Title:** The Harbinger **Symbol:** male lion with many battle scars across its face **Domain:** War, Battle, power, strength, Tactics **Cleric Domain(s):** War, Order **Alignment:** Lawful **Followers:** Soldiers, strategists, tacticians, athletes, gladiators **Lore:** There are many forms of battle. The armies of warring nations clashing on a battlefield, a battle of wits between politicians, competing sports teams, a pair of buck fighting over a female, and even a person sick with disease fighting for their life; all these battles are considered equal under the eyes of Faaldir and he watches over them all. He blesses the worthy with victory, and curses the unworthy with defeat no matter the form of victory. It is common for soldiers, kings, lawyers and even athletes to pray to Faaldir to bless them with victory in their upcoming battle. ### Montari - God of Freedom **Titles:** The First Gryphon, The Unshackled One **Symbol:** a mountain within a wreath of olive branches **Domain:** Freedom, anarchy, Individuality, sky **Cleric Domain(s):** life, nature **Alignment:** Chaotic **Followers:** Slaves, anarchists **Lore:** According to legend, Montari was born human, his true name forgotten to time, and sold into slavery as a child. As an adult they led a slave revolt against their masters which ended in his death. However, that was not the end of Montari. After his public execution his body was supposedly lifted into the air, and he was reborn as the first Gryphon. He took the name Montari and restarted his revolt against slavery, this time however it ended in the ancient kingdom of Selkesha banning slavery outright. He took the sky as his domain, owing it to the fact that nothing is more free than the openness of it. His followers took to living on the mountains, as they are the closest points to the sky.
In accordance with Montari's views that all beings should have absolute freedom in both life and death, the mountain settlements of his followers lack any laws. All citizens have the inalienable right to complete freedom in any aspect in their life, but this does not necessarily mean a freedom from \pagebreakNum consequences as those that take offence to another’s actions have the freedom to deal with them as they see fit. ### Noyon Nar - God of the Sun **Title:** Lord of the Sun **Symbol:** Large dragon made of fire grasping the sun in its claws **Domain:** Sun, desert, fire, heat, day **Cleric domain(s):** Light, Death **Alignment:** Chaotic **Followers:** Naryons, fire giants, creatures from the fire plane, dragons **Lore:** Twin Brother of Noyon Sar. Considered to represent both the destructive properties of fire, and the warming nature that life requires. Was the most common god during the BDE, but has lost many of his followers outside the Khandat Gurvel due to the desertification of the world caused by the water disappearing. Some zealots claim Noyon Nar is punishing the world for their sins and that Noyon Sar will bring back the water when the world stops their sinful ways, although the high priests of the twin gods say they have nothing to do with it. ### Noyon Sar - Goddess of the Moon **Title:** Lady of the Moon **Symbol:** Large dragon made of moonlight grasping a moon in its claws **Domain:** Night, Moon, life, darkness, cold **Cleric Domain(s):** Life, Arcana, Twilight **Alignment:** Lawful **Followers:** Nocturnal humanoids, undead, vampires, **Lore:** Twin Sister of Noyon Nar. Together the twins are the two sides of the same coin, you cannot have one without the other. Like her brother, worship of Noyon Sar has greatly diminished in the Desert Era due to how deadly the nights have turned with the whole upper world being a desert. Where once she was considered a god of the oceans and healing, she is now considered a god of death and the cold. However her personality and temperament has not changed and the few worshippers that knew what she was like in the PDE are treated extremely well by her, though she still acknowledges her new worshippers even if she doesn’t fully approve of them. ### Riven - God of Justice **Title:** The Judge **Domain:** Law, justice, order, civilization **Cleric Domain(s):** Order, Knowledge **Alignment:** Lawful **Followers:** Modrons, judges, city guards, rulers, devils **Symbol:** An old, blinded dog wearing a blindfold. **Lore:** ### Sorobos - God of Change **Title:** Great Ouroboros **Symbol:** snake eating its tail **Domain:** Death, rebirth, serpents **Cleric Domain(s):** death, grave **Alignment:** Lawful **Followers:** Yuan-Ti, Elves, Rakshasas, Fiends, Phoenixes **Lore:** Always moving in a circle, representing the continuous cycle of life and death, birth and rebirth. Non-Elves that have proven their faith are reborn in a new body of the same race when the old one dies, and by age 10 (or equivalent for races that age differently) they have regained all of their old memories. Sorobos is considered to be the patron god of both the Yuan-Ti and the Elves, however the Wood Elves renounced Sorobos near the end of the BDE resulting in them losing their right to reincarnate. ### Xaela - Goddess of Knowledge **Title:** The All Knowing **Symbol:** owl with a ring of eyes circling the entire head **Domain:** Knowledge, Education, Self-Improvement **Cleric Domain(s):** Knowledge, Arcana **Alignment:** Neutral **Followers:** Wizards, liches, librarians, students, those who seek knowledge in general **Lore:** Knows all there is to know and all that there will be. Xaela is said to know the actions one would take long before they themselves were even born. Some take this to mean that there is no free will and that none can be blamed for their actions, and others try to change their fates by doing things that may be unexpected. ### Yulen - God of Prosperity **Title:** The Great Merchant **Symbol:** A black fox circled around a large gold coin **Domain:** Markets, Wealth, Greed, Prosperity **Cleric Domain(s):** Trickery **Alignment:** Neutral **Followers:** merchants, thieves, dragons, Halflings, bankers **Lore:** ### Zendala - Goddess of Creation **Title:** The Maker **Symbol:** albino spider weaving an infinite web **Domain:** Creation, Fate, Blacksmithing, Alchemy, Reproduction, Art **Cleric Domain(s):** Forge **Alignment:** Chaotic **Followers:** Alchemists, blacksmiths, artists, musicians, spiders **Lore:** The web Zendala is ever weaving represents the infinite possibilities of fate and those caught within. In the web lies all that has existed, that does exist and will exist, all created by her. Some say that Zendala created the other gods, as who else could create such powerful beings? But more than that, Zendala supposedly created herself from nothing, though none know the truth of this except Xaela and Zendala herself. Their worshippers show their faith by creating new things, such as art, in their name. However not all creations are good, as a necromancer raising the undead is also a new creation that is considered to be an act of worship towards Zendala. \pagebreakNum ## The Idols ### Aura - Idol of Healing **Title:** The Lifespring **Domain:** Life, Healing, Medicine, Empathy **Followers:** Doctors, Healers, the sick and wounded **Cleric Domain(s):** Life **Warlock Pact(s):** Celestial **Alignment:** Neutral Good **Symbol:** A light blue hand, palm facing away, with light green swirls underneath it **Lore:** Aura first gained renown 10 years ago while in her teens. Convinced she was a long-forgotten goddess reborn, Aura sought out to prove her divinity by healing an entire town of the plague within a week of arriving. In doing so she managed to convince the majority of the town of her divinity with her miracle, and the town of Renault became the first town where the majority religion was that of Aura.
Since then her following has only grown with her continued acts of generosity in both the Underdark and Upper Lands, travelling with a small contingent of devout bodyguards, and never taking payment in return for her services. While it is still debated on whether or not Aura is a true goddess none would deny that they are thankful for her work and thus she was deemed the title of Idol of Healing. She is an air genasi woman in her mid 30s. Long and flowing white hair, blue eyes, and light blue/grey skin, with her body covered in glowing tattoos of celestial writings and symbols. ### The Unknowable - Idol of the Unknown **Title:** The Unknown **Domain:** Secrets, forbidden knowledge, forgotten knowledge, the unknown **Followers:** Those with secrets to hide **Cleric Domain(s):** Trickery **Warlock Pact(s):** The Great Old One **Alignment:** Chaotic Neutral **Symbol:** Two interlocked question marks **Lore:** Everything about The Unknowable is just that, unknown. In fact no one even knows if The Unknowable truly exists, or if the idea of it was conjured up by mortals as a counterpart to Xaela, the All Knowing. Despite this, there have been the rare individual to have claimed to be granted magic by the Unknowable, but like everything else surrounding them its impossible to say if they were granted the power or if their own belief gave birth to their magic. If The Unknowable exists, no one knows where to find them, what they look like, what they're like, or what they want. If The Unknowable exists, either not even Xaela knows, or she refuses to tell anyone. ### Ilnaeus - Idol of Stories **Title:** The Storyteller **Domain:** Stories **Followers:** Authors, playwrites, musicians **Cleric Domain(s):** Knowledge, Light **Warlock Pact(s):** The Archfey **Alignment:** True Neutral **Symbol:** An open book with text spiraling outwards **Lore:** Ilnaeus was not originally of Teyvan, but originally hailed from the Feywild. Growing bored of the Feywild, Ilnaeus decided to come to Teyvan as it was something different. They were originally going to only be in Teyvan for a few years, but when the water disappeared they ended up getting trapped there. As a powerful creature of the feywild, Ilnaeus was not worried about the lack of food and water. Ilnaeus decided to spend their time telling stories about the places they've seen and the people they've met. Though not all of their stories were true, no one cared as the stories were just that good. It did not take long before people started treating them as an Idol, and Ilnaeus was not one to argue. In no time at all Ilnaeus became an actual Idol, and began to gather a not insignificant number of followers who would tell their stories throughout Teyvan, and would craft their own stories in their name. ### Zurrath - Idol of Cruelty **Title:** The **Domain:** Pain, Torture, Punishment, Revenge, Vengeance **Followers:** Slavers, Sadists, Torturers, Jailers **Cleric Domain(s):** War, Grave, Life **Warlock Pact(s):** The Fiend, Hexblade **Alignment:** Neutral Evil **Symbol:** A dagger with a drop of blood hanging off the tip **Lore:** Death is a simple, easy, finite thing. Everyone dies at some point, and some die multiple times. Death is often considered to be the most extreme punishment one can be dealt, but not to Zurrath. Zurrath has often considered death to be a mercy, a mercy some do not deserve. So Zurrath made it his life's ambition to seek out those sentenced to die, that he did not think deserved the mercy of death, as well as those that managed to escape punishment for their crimes. Those he found and deemed unworthy of death would quickly wish death upon themselves, as Zurrath made their existence nothing but pain. Zurrath would not stop when his victims were near death, and would instead use his own healing capabilities to heal the wounds he inflicted just so he could make them again.
Despite what one would think, Zurrath found no pleasure or enjoyment in the acts of cruelty he performed. He was not cruel for the sake of it, but because his mind was twisted in a way that made him think he had to do it. He also made sure that once he deemed his victims repentant, he would simply leave them to find a new victim. The stories of Zurrath's actions spread quickly, and there was a mixed reception to the stories. While many were understandably horrified, there were also those thankful that someone punished the criminals that ruined their lives.
Copycats began to pop up, so when Zurrath themselves eventually died, no one realized it. However as the years passed, the original meaning for the cruelty was lost in the rumours and stories, and Zurrath gained the reputation of a cold blooded sadist who tortured innocents for the fun of it. Eventually the stories of Zurrath's deeds and the copycats' deeds began to get muddled and mixed. and the idea of the Idol of Cruelty began to form as an immortal torturer that would both punish those that did not deserve death, but also for his own enjoyment. Nowadays most scorn the name Zurrath, but there are still the few that remember the original and continue to follow in his footsteps.

\pagebreakNum # Chapter 6: Character Options ## Races Though all races from the *Player's Handbook* are present, not all of the playable races from the supplemental books exist in Teyvan. For those that do live in Teyvan, many have cultures that differ from their kin in the Forgotten Realms, Exandria, Eberron, or other published settings. However due to the varied cultures of Teyvan, even within a single subrace, there is always room to have similar cultures to other published ones if you so desire. This chapter contains a complete list on the races that exist within Teyvan. Any races not listed here do not exist within Teyvan naturally. Races are listed alphabetically, and not based on how common they are. ### Aarakocra ### Aasimar ### Bugbears ### Changelings ### Dragonborn ### Dwarves ### Elves #### High Elves #### Wood Elves #### Dark Elves #### Eladrin #### Shadar-Kai ### Genasi Genasi are a bit of a unique race within Teyvan. Though they can of course be born to other genasi of their element, there is always a random chance of non-Genasi parents giving birth to a Genasi child, even if both parents have no Genasi blood. These children are often seen as either blessings or omens, and the reactions to their births can differ due to any number of reasons. Many Genasi are also born with the spark of magic within them, especially those born to non-Genasi parents. As such it is fairly rare for Genasi to live mundane lives in Teyvan, and those that do usually still end up using some magic in their day to day lives. #### Air Genasi #### Earth Genasi #### Fire Genasi The Fire Genasi born in the last years of the Before Desert Era are now scorned by their friends and family, and many non Genasi blame them for the planet's desertification, despite the lack of evidence for this claim. Many Fire Genasi join the Naryons of the Khandantat Gurvel, and help keep the Surface safe during the daytime due to their innate resistance to flame and heat. #### Water Genasi Genasi in general were never common in Teyvan, and all four elements were roughly equal in the Before Desert Era. However around the year 6340 BDE the birth rates of Water Genasi plummeted. No Water Genasi were being born to non-Genasi parents, and even Water Genasi found themselves struggling to have children. So by the time the water disappeared Water Genasi birthrates were close to 0, and then the Water Genasi themselves began to disappear once the water did. Teyvan became extremely uninhabitable for them, even those lucky enough to already live in the hospitable areas of the Underdark found themselves struggling for survival. So it came as no surprise that many Water Genasi either fled the Material Plane, or died. The few that survived are now in their 50s, and most people will go their entire lives without seeing one. It is a safe assumption that within the next few decades Water Genasi will be extinct within Teyvan. ### Gnomes ### Goblins ### Goliaths ### Half-Elves ### Halflings ### Half-Orcs ### Hobgoblins ### Humans Humans were once the most populous race in Teyvan, with varying cultures and traditions spread throughout dozens of small nations and city states. However in the later years of the Fifth Millennia of the Before Desert Era, a minor human noble gained ambitions of ruling Teyvan. That human was the first Emperor of the Wulfgardian Empire, Emperor Darius Ari Wulfgard I. Emperor Darius began a series of bloody conquests, aiming to bring all of Teyvan's humans under his rule, an ambition his descendants have continued. The Wulfgardian Empire was extremely successful, so by the last years of the Before Desert Era they were the only nation with a human majority, and their culture of bloodlust and conquest was the last major human culture remaining. However it would be wrong to say it was the only human culture remaining, as the Wulfgardians found it hard to truly kill cultures and ideas. Instead a later Emperor, Emperor Vician Ari Wulfgard II, decided to implement a system where citizens could report each other for practicing illegal cultures and traditions. Unsurprisingly this resulted in humans being unable to trust each other, worrying that their neighbours or family would report them for even minor offenses. This culture of distrust and aggression meant that when the water disappeared, the humans were dealt a heavier blow to their numbers than the other races. Though the last Emperor of the Before Desert Era, Emperor Cyrus ari Wulfgard III, attempted to bring the empire to a more peaceful and accepting age, he was killed by his younger brother to prevent it after the water disappeared. Now in the face of possible extinction, the humans need to relearn how to trust each other. \pagebreakNum ### Kenku ### Kobolds ### Lizardfolk ### Minotaur ### Orcs ### Tieflings ### Transferred Transferred are the people who underwent the magical ritual known as Transferrence, moving both mind and soul from their original flesh bodies into man-made bodies made of metal. Though expensive and time consuming to create, Transferred are becoming more and common in the Desert Era due to them not requiring food and water to survive. ### Yuan-Ti The Yuan-Ti of the Serpes Silinius were a fairly rare race in the Before Desert Era, with only a small amount of land and very little economic or political power. \pagebreakNum ## Backgrounds
