Wemic

The chieftain of the Longnight pride was lazing in the grass on a sunny day. The men were out hunting, and she was waiting for them to return

Then a rustle in the distance caught her attention. It was one of those hairless races, she couldn't really tell them apart. Well... she knew what the green ones were. But they had more respect for her kind than this one, thinking she'd be caught unawares like this, and it wasn't green.

By the time it lept from the grass brandishing it's knife she was already behind it pinning it to the ground with her spear.

Leonine Hunters

Wemics are centaurlike creatures with the upper torso of a humanoid atop a lion's broad shoulders. They are a proud and noble people who may be the most skilled hunters in the world.

Dusky golden fur covers them from head to tail. Their tails feature a brush of black hair, and the males have a long black mane. Wemics' faces are leonine with golden eyes that have the slitted pupils of a cat. Their ears are set high on their heads.

Prejudices and Prides

Wemics live in harmony with nature, "uncivilized" and proud of it. They eschew the ways of civilization, since they can't see why anyone would ever want to live under a shingled roof when she could have the sky itself as her roof. Wemics are a proud people, usually slow to anger, but they have no patience for civilized folk who take their lack of familiarity with human society for ignorance.

Wemics learn to hunt and fight from a very young age. Wemics the opposite sex of the leader do most of the hunting. While the other sometimes lead the hunt, but more often they roam the plains, protecting the pride from outside threats.

Diminishing Domains

Wemics have long been masters of the plains they call home, but "civilization" holds no respect for that and has slowly been encroaching on their lands.

Wemics are not evil, nor chaotic, but their distaste for the "civilized" races is clear in their interactions with them. Wemics must fight to keep their homes, and so, frequently don't let them get a word in before cutting them down.

Adventuring wemics sometimes leave their remote homes to see more of the world. They are fascinated by the colorful human merchants who travel through their territory. With civilization creeping closer to their hunting lands every year, some of the more adventurous wemics realize that it's in the interest of the pride for them to learn everything they can about their neighbors before it is too late.

Sendentary Lives

Life as a wemic is simple. Most of the day is spent playing around, basking in the sun, or hunting for food.

The leader of the pride is the strongest individual. When they are eventually challenged and removed from power, they usually wander off to live alone or join with others who have left their prides for various reasons. Sometimes prides join together to form a tribe that can defend itself against a threat larger than a single pride could handle.

Wemic Names

Along with their personal names, wemics identify themselves by their pride. A member of the Flintclaw pride with the personal name of Ziore, for example, would likely style herself as Ziore of the Flintclaw.
